However, regarding your CAM issue, I recommend to look out for a CNC saw or mill first. If you found one, there may be not a big selection of compatible hardware and software. Hello Tuğçe, Did you assigned memory to the resource? rt_init_resource() expects a pointer to valid memory. In general, it isn't easy to write a Python wrapper for BRL-CAD. I recommend to program it in C first. If this works, you can try to move your implementation to Python. By using the ctypes module, we loaded a dll library of BRL CAD and in particular used librt.c. By ctypes, we wrapped the functions rt_dirbuilt(), rt_gettree(), rt_prep and finally rt_shootray(). We implemented all needed structs and unions, including application and partition structures. Application structure is initialized with 0s as documentation stated. For hit and miss routines, we define python functions and wrap them by using CFUNCTYPES to pass as valid C arguments. Arguments of hit and miss functions are defined according to documentation, too. However, when rt_shootray is called, the program crashes and gives the following errors. Hello William, The best source to familiarize with BRL-CAD is the mged tutorial (PDF), you probably know already. The further documentation needed depends on your application. This is a reason why it's a bit disjointed, but there is hope for improvement (https://brlcad.org/wiki/Google_Season_of_Docs/Proposal). Raspberry Pi: I don't think that running any CAD on a Raspberry Pi is a good idea. It should however be possible to run BRL-CAD in console mode, i.e. without X-Window, OpenGL, etc.. What would be possible too, is to use BRL-CAD as a geometry service back end, what sounds more like a Rasperry Pi application too. Example files: There aren't much more than in the share/db directory. That's because... Real-world projects: Most are still the same category like AJEM ( https://www.dsiac.org/resources/models/ajem/). Exceptions are e.g. Ronja ( https://brlcad.org/wiki/Ronja) and Projecto VeRDE ( https://brlcad.org/wiki/Projecto_VeRDE). Parametric designs/doing math: You could use BRL-CAD's C libraries in your program, or the C++ interface, and there are still efforts to extend the available scripting languages to Python and Lua, for example. I've been running into a lot of limitations of OpenSCAD, and have been trying to choose some other tool to try, and BRL-CAD seems promising in some ways. It was just a temporary problem. Something caused Apache to go 100% cpu, but unresponsive. There is a watchdog script that should have forced it to restart, but will have to look into what happened. I am rather new on BRL-CAD, which I find being an interesting programme. but i have come into trouble. At some situations I get a message that the command I want to perform cannnot be executed (well not exactly these words) because the proramme is in the state "SOL PICK". I have searched in a lot of sources, but nowhere is any explaination of what this means or how I can leave it.. I have tried sed, but amting get jist the message mentioned. Someone who knows? |

Hi all, I installed brlcad on the recent version of macOs. When I start the Application i just get the Information this app will close with in 5 seconds and then the Program is down. I am running a VBA script that I wrote using NIRT to determine intervening material thickness through the model to a particular aim point. An output to that is a BRL-CAD command script to generate ARB5 solids placed into groups that are colored to show what I need. It appears the BRL-CAD script is working just fine up to a point. Hello Ahmet, Yes, it is possible. But if it is feasible four you, is the thing you have to find out. I recommend that you make yourself familiar with BRL-CADs basic modeling principles first. You could, for example, do the tutorial ( http://brlcad.org/w/images/c/cf/Introduction_to_MGED.pdf) to learn about them. In addition, BRL-CAD can import CAD data from many sources. I.e., if you have already some data, it is very likely that you can import and work with it in BRL-CAD. Regarding the curved shapes, BRL-CAD has primitives like ellipsoides or tori to model them. Just read about this in the September edition of the "Communications of the ACM" in the Research Highlights section in an article entitled "OpenFab: A Programmable Pipeline for Multimaterial Fabrication." The article notes the original version of the paper appeared in "ACM Transactions on Graphics 32, 4 (July 2013). Sean is probably aware of the library, but it looked interesting to me and I needed an excuse to say "hello, long time no see" to the BRL-CAD community. I just now started reading the whole article and have found mention of that possible synergy, partially in this statement in the section 7, DISCUSSION AND FUTURE WORK: "Designing a full ecosystem around this pipeline is a natural direction for follow-up work. This could include a procedural modeling tool [BRL-CAD], a visual fablet authoring tool [BRL-CAD or one of the sister CAD projects], and a print preview based on measured material properties [BRL-CAD]...." Of course I envision Perl 6 being the wrapper language for all the pieces (shameless plug: https://perl6.org). On a serious note, Perl 6 has a powerful interface with C libraries as well as Python libraries and its parallel and concurrent processing abilities are phenomenal. And I still have plans for a Perl 6 interface with BRL-CAD, maybe for a GSoC project. We (the Perl 6 community) are just finishing the GSoC program with three student programmers getting their final evaluations. Two of them worked on our documentation system (which is heavily automated using the code-integrated Pod 6 document syntax), and one working on a project to compile a Perl 6 script into a transportable binary executable file. Perhaps we two communities could join forces for GSoC as you have been doing with other groups over the last few years. One last thought, regarding the utility and power of Perl 6 and its parallel and concurrent capabilities, I encourage you to watch this impressive video of a recent talk by the current Perl 6 architect, Jonathan Worthington. In it he discusses in some detail a project, programmed in Perl 6, his company has been very successful with. It is a project that his client uses to satisfy very complex auditing requirements for tracking adherence to some nightmarish European Union regulations. I have been away for a long time, and I would like to see the GSOC projects if possible. I have gound the Google GSOC website and found the 2018 projects under the BRL-CAD listing, but I so far haven't found where they are on the BRL-CAD site. I am particularly interested in the Python scripting project (with FreeCAD I think) and its possible application to BRL-CAD. Also, the old tutorial section seems hard-to-find from the nerw site.
