No

I used this tool to crop non-confidential information, and created a new document. The new pdf file doesn't show the leftover confidential parts.
Happy with the results I E-mailed the file.
To my horror, I just realized that when I print the cropped document, the confidential parts are still there and are printed out!!
I have just released very sensitive and confidential information!
Why are there no warnings about this!?
Is this a software bug?

Hi! It's nowhere stated that briss removes the information of the pdf but rather readjust the viewing aspect of the document. So to be clear: No information is being cropped and if you want to remove confidential parts you MUST use other tools ( I expect adobe acrobat to be suitable).

I really like your tool, but I need to make sure that I can use it for my purpose. It is much more convenient than Acrobat when cropping multiple sections form the same page.
I did some research and found that hidden information can be removed in Adobe Acrobat X (Tools|Remove Hidden Information).
However, there is a problem when using this with BRISS. I did the following tests.
    A. Standard Work-flow:
    1. Open 1 page pdf in BRISS
    2. Create 2 Crop regions
    3. Preview (I now have 2 pages as expected) and Save.
    4. Open in Adobe Acrobat X.
    5. Remove Hidden Information (successful) and Save.
    6. Try Remove hidden information again. It shows that there is still hidden information!!?
I assume that there is something nonstandard in how BRISS saves the hidden info?

    B. I then tried a workaround:
    1. Open 1 page pdf in BRISS
    2. Create 1st Crop region
    3. Preview (I now have 1 page as expected) and Save as P1.
    4. Create 2nd Crop region
    5. Preview (I now have 1 page as expected) and Save as P2.
    6. Open each page (P1 and P2) individually in Adobe Acrobat X.
    7. Remove Hidden Information (for each page individually) and Save as P1_RH & P2_RH.
    8. Combine P1_RH & P2_RH in Acrobat.
    9. Try Remove hidden information again. It shows that there is no hidden cropped region now!

Can you fix this so that work-flow A will work? It is a lot of work to have to save each region individually, remove the hidden regions and then combine all the files.
I assume that there is something nonstandard in how BRISS saves the hidden info?

Hi again. I don't now Acrobat X enough to say whats happening when you remove "hidden" information, but I know that Briss will not remove ANY information AT ALL. This is not and will not be it's purpose. So I'm very sorry for the misunderstanding of briss's feature set and I will make sure to include a warning for your case, but I can't help you.

Well ... the short description of briss calls it a
" simple cross-platform application for cropping PDF files".
Any average non-pdf-expert not would expect "CROP" to do exactly that - cut away stuff, not hiding it. "Crop" is a function name that is used in almost any image processing application for cutting out image parts, therefore this terminology creates an incorrect assumption on how briss works.

Yes, you are right, but calling it a"simple cross-plattform application for readjusting the viewable area of a pdf" wouldn't be helpful either. i will include a warning into the software, but i definitely won't change the usage of "crop"

Excuse me if that came across too harsh - that was not my intention. As I said (elsewhere) I like briss and it is very helpful to adjust pdfs for my ipad and I appreciate that you made this application available.
Anyway, you are right, "readjusting the viewable area" is too clumsy and nobody would understand it. Should I come up with a better one-or-two-word description, I'll let you know . But I think it will be hard to find one ...

I didn't want to sound harsh either - I warmly welcome any wording!

Have you tried "printing" the cropped file to a new pdf using a pdf virtual printer
    such as PDF creator?

The "crop" issue is not an issue with Briss--it is a known problem with Acrobat that 'crop' just hides areas without removing them. Printing to a new pdf fixes it. I think 'save as optimized pdf' may fix it also. 'remove hidden information' (in acrobat) may also fix it. 'Save as image' and exporting individual pages to .tiff and then recombining them into pdf also fixes it. But of course you need Acrobat, not Adobe Reader, to do these functions.

By the way--I used Briss for a year before getting the joke with the name--and I'm Jewish!

Well, it is really a feature of the pdf format rather than a problem with Acrobat...
