Hello, upon openenig yaoqiang, I noticed that yaoqiang transimts data across the network when no files are open on the network and continues to use a considerable amount of traffic. Can you tell me why this is? After having it open for approx. 1,5 hours, it has generated 40 MB of network traffic. With no use.

Hello, there is a feature named "Online Users", this view can be opened from the menu Window -> Show view -> Online Users. From this view you can see who are using Yaoqiang now.
When opening the editor, yaoqiang will check current online users periodically. this will generate some network traffic.

    Hi Blenta,

we currently have issues with this traffic. Some clients notice multiple Gigabytes of data being sent from Yaoqiang. This is just too much and raises concerns and security discussions, especially because there is not easy way to disable this. Could you please update Yaoqiang to not send and receive these data until confirmation or at least provide a settingn to disable the modules, e.g. the "Who is online" module.

    Cheers, Nils

I need this feature, I can clearly know who is using Yaoqiang. so this feature is mandatary.

PS: I don't think it will generate too much network traffic.

What exactly do you need to know and why ?

    Hi Blenta,

I can understand that you want to gather some usage data, but currently Yaoqiang is constantly sending and receiving data - as explained by the reporter - in GB sizes. This is definetivly too much traffic. I suggest to send some usage data 2 times a day or so and also have some GUI available to see what data exactly has been transferred. We are using Yaoqiang for learning and open source project issues, but also we have concerns about the amount of data and the content Yaoqiang is sending out.

    Cheers, Nils

Yaoqiang uses p2p architecture, so I'm not gathering any data.
Yaoqiang is constantly checking other people who are using Yaoqiang.
What you see in Online users view is what you sent and received data.

I tested some BPMN modelling tools but this seems unqiue. Why is Yoaqiang doing that ? Why would I want to send a message to a Yaoqiang user ?

This function will be used for collaboration.
Users can draw the same diagram from network, this feature is still under test.

Well... I am pretty sure that my IT department would go crazy about that feature, but in a bad way. Truth is.. I have no idea what Yaoqiang is sending all day long. It could be anything on my computer :)

Don't get me wrong. I'm just trying to be clear. Because I cannot disable the network feature, this might/will be a reason to drop Yaoqiang.

Look at the news. Everybody is spying on everybody :)

I aggree with Nils. You are not offering a webbased solution, that is more or less, seperated from the data on my computer. There must be a way of showing what you are actually transmitting.

There is a workaround to disable this feature,

Please set the following system properties:

    • asaf.p2p.super.id=<super.id> # e.g. 0xd1754529dcabe843f803ed1f606a4b6b2b4e145a</super.id>
    • asaf.p2p.super.ip=<super.ip> # e.g. 192.168.0.101 </super.ip>
    • asaf.p2p.super.port=<super.port> # e.g. 7000</super.port>

You can get above three values from menu Settings -> P2P -> My Profile.

This method will make your editor only connect to itself.
After this setting, you will not see other users in Online Users view, other users also will not see you.

Sweet. Hmm not sure where to set the settings.

    But there is more

If Yaoquiang will be used in our company, our IT department would want to be able to set those settings during rollout. We are not installing any software by hand. Its is all automated.

But if anybody wants to collaborate when design BPMN diagrams, then it should be easy to activate.

    Hi Blenta,

I think the idea behind the collaboration is AWESOME! Just imagine what is possible if you model your process and you can get someone from the Yaoqiang community or from you own staff in the company to collaborate with you during the design.

But... As long as this feature is "Experimental", I really recommend you to have it disabled by default. It will only cause people to become "afraid" of Yaoqiang sending personal data to "somewhere" as there is no business user friendly GUI to see and configure this module.

    Cheers, Nils

    Hi
I agree with Nils ans Robert: this behaviour causes very serious concerns.
    In my opinion :
The collaboration function - and the corresponding network traffic - should be disabled by default
Once enabled, it should be possible for the end user to easily disable it again

    Cheers.
