Not sure if this is a bug. Shouldn't a dataobject that is defined in a (embedded) sub-process be also available in a parent process??

Because it is not.

a Data Object can only be accessed by its
immediate parent (Process or Sub-Process), or by its sibling Flow Elements and their children,
