Hey Andi! The cursors are nowhere near where I'd like them to be, in other words: they're butt-ugly. Of course I could make a white border around them, but they wouldn't be more beautiful then ;) I'll try to create some cursors for testing for you. You only need those 2, move and attack? I know X can't do color cursors, but I've heard that you can use Qt to make a pixmap follow the mouse cursor. Is that true, would that be feasible? If yes, how about transparency? Or is X maybe able to use color cursors due to Xrender? The fog of war: In most games of this kind that I know, different units can look different distances. That means it would be difficult to use bitmap masks (every units would need a fow-mask, right?). So we either agree that units can all look the same distance (bad) or create a pixmap for every unit (bad) or specify the viewing range in a units description file, but you'd have to do the fow-mask in code.
