Maximum file name length, maximum file size
Audio converter and CD ripper for various formats

Hallo,
I am using freaccmd.exe to convert wav to ogg. I have two questions:
am I right in thinking that there is a limit to the length of the names of input and output files? There would seem to be. I have worked around this by converting the files in a directory with a short address and then moving the converted file to the desired location which has a longer address.
What is the maximum file size in MB that can be converted?
Thank you for your time.

Hi, fre:ac handles long paths up to a total length of approximately 32000 characters. Each individual folder or file name in the path can have a length of up to 248 characters. These are the limits imposed by Windows and its file system. There should be no need to output to a folder with a short path and then move the files when using fre:ac.
When converting .wav to .ogg, the .wav file can have a size of up to 4 GB. This is the maximum size allowed by the .wav file format. Some programs allow creating bigger .wav files, but these are non-conforming.
BR,
Robert

Many thanks for the info. Sorry I have not been able to reply earlier. I am a little puzzled by the long paths limit. My path certainly does not contain 32000 characters. As far as I can tell it is not accepted by freac but is usable in VB.NET.

Sorry to waste your time. It's my fault. There were spaces in the output file path and I had not put quotes around the path. It now does what I want it to do and does it faster. Thanks for the info anyway.
Thank you for reporting back! Glad you sorted it out!
