[Bodington-developers] move to JAVA 1.5

I think the consensus from Oxford is that a shift to Java 1.5 would be a
good thing.

However, it is not clear whether we'll actually be able to run it under 1.5
after Easter (or next upgrade) we may have to wait for the summer. 

We may have to keep writing 1.4 code for a while, but are quite happy to
translate any code from BOD-HEAD from 1.5 to 1.4 in the short term.
