Strangely familiar. This is not the first time that I have done this. It was only the first time, however, that I was threatened by the Ticket Inspector to have to buy a ticket back to Leeds. I am an expert at sleeping past stops (which seems to coincide with the occasions on which I have packed a QB* for the trip home). I remember trying to get back to Leeds from Lancaster or Leicester (something with an L) once and ending up in Burton-on-Trent after sleeping past 2 connecting stations. (Preceded by me congratulating myself for waking up precisely at the correct time to alight at Birmingham only to discover I had got off at the Airport rather than New Street.) I emerged at Burton to be met by the railman waiting at the end of the platform with a big bunch of keys in his hand ready to lock the gates. At this point I admitted defeat and realized it was going to have to be a hotel - a =A320 taxi fare and =A3160 at a Holiday Inn. A sore one. =20 An even sorer one was when I was suffering from the gout at Paddington Station looking for a train to Little Marlowe. The Marlowe train departed from the platform furthest away from the main bit of the station. I missed 2 trains due to the fact that it took me longer to hobble to the platform than the time before departure that the train went up on the board. Old ladies laden down with shopping bags were knocking me over as they zoomed past. I was going to Marlowe to meet the great granddaughter of a hero of mine, Josiah Latimer Clark, a famous engineer (and inventor of the Clark Cell) from Little Marlowe, who was over from Australia. Needless to say, when I got there she had gone.=20 I don't travel on planes much. Regards, Brian *Perhaps this is a Scottish term: QB =3D quarter bottle. -----Original Message----- From: bod...@li...
