I would be incline to work the other way and see how it goes.

2.4 -> Current Build of HEAD (2.6).
2.1.0rc4 -> 2.4
2.1.1s2 -> 2.1.0rc4?

If we are still accepting more stuff into HEAD then the end schema for 
2.6 may well change.
