Good point - I'd mislaid the fact that the immediate driver for conversion is i18n. Thanks for the timely reminder. Personal opinion: It's worth continuing to bat around how one would migrate to JSP in the background, but we should note that it's a background activity for possible incorporation into a future version. - Peter |

No. I still think that moving to JSP is the right way to go but at the moment I don't have the time to sit down and think about how it would work and get a demo running. This template discussion has arisen because there is a plan to make all the template i18nized and the i18n code is currently only supported in new style templates. -- +--Matthew Buckett-----------------------------------------+ | VLE Developer, Learning Technologies Group | | Tel: +44 (0) 1865 283660 http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ | +------------Computing Services, University of Oxford------+ |

Friends, We are not opening this back up for debate. We have a tight timescale to go to 2.6 end of June. There is no time to work out a second soln. JSP would be great, but will not be ready by 2.6 and we MUST do something about i18n and localization for local changes. Someone was going to look at embedding an entity in for org name, e.g. weblearn, clan, but alistair told me that this wouldn't work. s <quote who=3D"Atif Suleman"> > Matthew Buckett wrote: > >> Peter Crowther wrote: >> >>> I wasn't at the last developers' meeting - was the idea of moving to >>> JSPs and taglibs revisited at all? >> >> No. I still think that moving to JSP is the right way to go but at the >> moment I don't have the time to sit down and think about how it would >> work and get a demo running. >> > Indeed JSP is the right way to go! :-) > > I would rather use a standard technology like JSP than use a Home brew > technology like the Bodington templates. > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email is sponsored by Oracle Space Sweepstakes > Want to be the first software developer in space? > Enter now for the Oracle Space Sweepstakes! > http://ads.osdn.com/?ad_id=3D7393&alloc_id=3D16281&op=3Dclick > _______________________________________________ > Bodington-developers mailing list > Bod...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/bodington-developers > --=20 Sean Mehan Head of Computing Research SMO, UHI |

It wouldn't work very well in a dynamic environment (if the entity changes the template wouldnpt, not without some kind of listener framework). Alistairs i18n framework is the best way to localize the institutional.system.name property I reckon! Alexis |

The problem with using XML entities is then you have a dependancy on a second file and so if the included file changed the template compiler in it's current state wouldn't notice this and so wouldn't recompile the template. Is there something else I am missing? -- +--Matthew Buckett-----------------------------------------+ | VLE Developer, Learning Technologies Group | | Tel: +44 (0) 1865 283660 http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ | +------------Computing Services, University of Oxford------+ |

Is this relevant? Bodington will come with compiled templates which refer to the system as 'Bodington' - if you want to call it Clan then you use a different entity file and run a single ant task to recompile - total time 2 mins. Surely this is easier than having to do a CVS merge on 300+ files to change one word - total time 3 hours? Adam (saying it like it is) -- Adam Marshall: OUCS, 13, Banbury Rd. Oxford OX2 6NN. Before if you changed the input you saw the updated output now you might not. As someone else mentioned in this thread using the i18n stuff may well be the better solution anyway. -- +--Matthew Buckett-----------------------------------------+ | VLE Developer, Learning Technologies Group | | Tel: +44 (0) 1865 283660 http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ | +------------Computing Services, University of Oxford------+ |
