Riaan is a bit pessimistic with Alpha stage, one could easily call it 
beta or maybe even release candidate:).

There was talk on the wxPython list to create the ultimate Python IDE 
(probably about a year ago) but I haven't seen anything announced.

While Boa is not perfect I feel it is the most complete IDE for 
wxPython.  If one does not want as much there are others, check out the 
wiki page for wxPython.
