I went thru the same pain when I started with CVS, hang in there ;)

Assuming you you use WinCVS,
I think the important settings for anonymous cvs checkouts are:

Cvs Admin -> Preferences -> CVSROOT:
ano...@cv...:/cvsroot/Boa-Constructor

Cvs Admin -> Checkout module... -> Module name and path on server:
boa
