As Jeremy said this is a lot of hot air going on the wxStudio list. Hot air is my thoughts on the topic. I just wanted to post this email to this group, because I did mention the Boa team in the e-mail. I feel that you guys should be know what going on. To sum things up, Ben Allfree [be...@bl...] is create a new wxStudio based on Python. Here is what I posted, I did clean up a few of the typos. First, I will introduce myself to those of you whom don't know me. I think that is most of the folks here. Hi my name is Jeff Duska. I've been a lurker here for some time. I'm also a lurker on the Boa - wxPython IDE list also. I was part of the FreeBuilder IDE group for over a year. I am the maintainer of the Korfe Java GUI Builder. I am Visual Basic programmer by trade, so the going is slow for me a times. Yet, as people have mentioned, us VB'ers aren't smart enough to just give up. We're like bad pennies that keep turning up. ;) I'd like to first make a few comments and suggestions. I am totally against Ben as a project lead. I'm sorry, but I feel this position needs to be some that can provide leadership and compromise. Instead Ben has already shown that it is his way or the highway. OpenAve already has a wxStudio site being provide for free. Why was another site needed? I offered to contact people at OpenAve, which I have good relationship with, if there was any problems with access. There is already a wxPython IDE. Yet, Ben has made no effort on the BOA list to work with this group. There is already is a CVS setup with Website for this group on SourceForge. Why do we need another CVS? This is exactly the mistakes that saw last year with the FreeBuilder IDE, which is a totally dead. I worked hard to promote the project, new people joined and then scraped all the previous work. New Website were created, IRC meeting occurred, chat happened. Just like Russell said all this was just nails in the coffin. From what I have seen in successful Open Source projects such, as for jEdit, Apache, Linux, and etc. The leadership is there by respect. They gain this status not by asking, but by action on the existing code. Ben if it is your wish to be the leader of the project, I would much rather see you adding value to the code base instead forking the projects. Please pick either Boa or wxStudio and work within the current source to make the project succeed. I personally think that the argument for Python are instresting, which is why I lurk on the Boa list. If people are intrested in wxPython project, there is a project call Boa ready and waiting for members to help out. Check it out at http://boa-constructor.sourceforge.net/ Personally, I doubt that either team will be able to share code in the first release or merge the project in the near future. There is a whole another level to complexity of the multi-language project that neither team has shown the resources to manage or support. I think wxStudio and WipeOut integration should be the priority of [the wxStudio] list. There appears to be a lot of needed functionality within the WipeOut project, so why not snap it up. I think changing langauges at this point would be foolish. You're wasting time that people have already invested in wxStudio. As I mentioned, there is already a working wxPython IDE project. We don't need two partial wxPython IDE projects! I'm just a lurker, so you'll can do what you want. Has anyone noticed that a lot of people are unsubscribing? Food for thought. 'nought said |
