Oh this is fantastic. About time we had some movement on this. I had been long considering forking this thing , at least so all the patches could be implemented.

the good thing is , modern Source control systems like git and mercurial dont have the fork hell problems thats CVS and SVN used to, meaning if the original dev ever returns , he can slot right back in and take over and 
merge whatever work he's done in private without too much grief.
