#142 Ctrl+W to close window instead of Ctrl+Q

Ctrl+Q is the shortcut to close a window in Boa 0.2.3,
but in my mind Ctrl+W seems to be kind of a standard to
do that (Mozilla, Netscape, Internet Explorer comes
into my mind).

Could it be changed, so that Ctrl+W closes the current
window instead of Ctrl+Q?

(This is not really a bug, and not really an RFE, so I
don't exactly know where to put it).

    Hi Jesper,

Ctrl+W is currently used to close Additional view on a module.

Maybe the two should switch, but the drawback is that many
people are probably used to it by now...

Not sure what to do yet.

    Riaan.

    I understand.

On the other hand, when the software is still in development
and before the 1.0 mark, maybe the users would expect the
software to change in some ways.

I think it is a good idea to go for what one thinks is the
best solution and take the pain of changing how the software
works as early as possible. The more you wait, the harder it
    gets to change it.

Of course, if there are custom keybindings on the way, the
user can set up Boa as he or she likes, and then the problem
is easy to solve for the user.

But still, isn't the precious shortcut Ctrl+W (kind of
standard "close subwindow" shortcut, and easy to press with
one hand) better used for a common thing like closing the
    current window?

I am new to Boa, but even while searching for it I still
    haven't found a state where Ctrl+W had an effect (I haven't
found out what the "additional view" is).

    Hi Jesper,

Sorry, I misspoke, Ctrl+W currently closes "closeable views"
    not "additional views".

An example of a "closeable view" is the results page you get
from the Find dialog after choosing "Find all"

An example of an "additional view" is the Todos view.
From a module choose Views->Todo and the view will open as
a new page on the notebook.

The user can certainly already change the keybindings under
Explorer->Preferences->Key bindings, but I'll switch you your
your suggestion as defaults for the next CVS release (0.2.7).

    Thanks,
    Riaan.

    That's great.

And thanks for the pointer to the keybindings settings. It
took me a while to find them (I had to understand the
Explorer first), but I found them and could change the
keybinding from Ctrl-Q to Ctrl-W, until I get the next
version of Boa, and it works perfectly.

    Thank you.
