#2 Need to be able to install as non-root

It would be *very* nice if bmf could be installed as
ordinary user, into any directory I want. I cannot try
out bmf if this is not the case.

Related to this is the lack of most standard options to
./configure. People simply expect things like --prefix
to work if they see a configure script.

Why don't you just copy the binaries to your ~/bin or any
directory of your preference?
