I like it a lot!! Really nice for a muckup. I hope we can see it soon in the Bme web page. I agree with Simon about changing the section "Advices and Reactions" to "Feedback", also adding the downloads section and from there get to the CVS. I agree we need a section like that, but "Advices and Reactions" does not make a lot of sense in English. "Advice" is something we give people (a better name would be "Tips and Tricks" or something), and "Reactions" are things they give us - this would be better called "Feedback". About the header - we decided on the capitalisation "Bme" instead of "BME", and the full name "Be-messeng-er" (but mainly for the beer connection). This was only ever meant to be a temporary name though, so I guess it's not all that important. Also it would be nice if the tracker windown in the header was replaced with a Bme window. Looks very nice overall though. Maybe there are some new changes that cause problems. My personal project file is a bit out of sync anyway, with the work-in-progress on the emoticons. I compiled off a clean from CVS version a few days ago, on a clean R5, with the net_server build of cryptlib, and after the initial connection attempt, nothing. Dead silence. I was on a 2Mbit WAN connection at the time, so latencies were 'bad', but still better than DSL on BT in rural areas, from my experience - 113msecs to Google. One of the devs should try building clean from CVS to see is there an issue, or is my apparently clean R5 somehow dirty... I think the compile is broken on Dano again, btw.... I'll take a look at that later on today. Cian/MYOB |

Hi Daniel, I committed the emoticongrid code yesterday...it also includes some changes in the contactlistview! So make sure your new code isn't overridden by mine. Also this code may contain some bugs...I'll try to fix these ASAP. Also status changes aren't changed directly...sometimes (scroll and the status changes) I'll try to fix this too. But now you can start working on the contactlistview! Hope you commit the sorting fix soon! regards, Tim _________________________________________________________________ MSN Search, for accurate results! http://search.msn.nl |

Hey Jixt, could be that it collides with some of the changes I made...I added a colour menu...what does it say error merging? You should do the following to commit any code: go to terminal export CVS_RSH=ssh; cvs update <enter your password> cvs commit -m "Insert update message here" <enter your password> if this doesn't work...and you'll get merge errors, first download the new code...apply your changes manually and upload them once again, anyway thanks for your work, regards, Tim >From: jan...@pa... >Reply-To: bme...@li... >To: bme...@li... >Subject: [bme-develop] Checking in files >Date: Wed, 03 Nov 2004 14:39:17 +0100 > >Hi! > >I've done some bugfixes in the fontmenu of the conversation menu. If BeOS had proper (native) support for SVG, that would be quite cool - especially in conversation windows, emoticons could fit text size much better. However the problem I have with SVG is that the same graphic doesn't always look good at all sizes (look at the on-the-phone icon - when big, it is nice to have buttons on the phone, but when drawn small it would be much clearer just as an empty rectangle). Those kind of changes can only really be tweaked by having specific images for different sizes. Same with the gradients - a gradient from red to black over maybe 50 pixels looks cool, but shrink the (same vector graphic) down to just 19px, and the whole gradient has to happen in about 5 pixels and ends up looking a little harsh. SVG also has overhead of rendering all the time. We can get away with 1-size emoticons (19x19, as msn does) and 2 sizes for status icons (19x19 for contact list and 16x16 for deskbar)...altho I'd like some larger status icons too. About GIF's - BeOS, by default, cannot handle GIF images. Not everyone has the translator installed. Haiku has it by default though. > >1) Any chance of some 16x16 ones for the deskbar replicant :P > >2) How about using PNG instead of GIF? Better quality and not so tied > >up with patents. Cian |

Grrr.. email didn't send, I'll try typing it all over again... > Hey guys, Hey, > just added to CVS some emoticons and a whole bunch of new status > icons made > by R=E9mi Grumeau of BeosFrance. Personally, I think they look great, > and they > give Bme a more professional look! Yes, I agree...look much nicer than my awful attempts. A few comments: 1) It seems odd to have the icons have 2 "people" in them, when they only represent the status of a single conact. Maybe we could have just one person in each icon. 2) The gradients seem a bit over-done in small icons (obviously they are designed much larger, then shrunk) - black dominates a bit too much, especially in the offline icons IMHO. I think the gradients look cool, but they might look better "toned down" a bit for icons as small as 19x19. 3) The "On the phone" icon looks like it had a lot of detail on the phone (buttons and stuff I guess), but when shrunk to 19x19 the whole phone is just a muddy brown and doesn't contrast all that well with the green of the person. If this could be brighter, I think it would help people to identify it. Other things: 1) Any chance of some 16x16 ones for the deskbar replicant :P 2) How about using PNG instead of GIF=3F Better quality and not so tied up with patents. > Note that the block icon and signed out > icon aren't available yet....(as they are not available for > customization in > the icon prefs file). Hey guys, just added to CVS some emoticons and a whole bunch of new status icons made by Rémi Grumeau of BeosFrance. Personally, I think they look great, and they give Bme a more professional look! Note that the block icon and signed out icon aren't available yet....(as they are not available for customization in the icon prefs file). I think Rémi did a great job and can't wait to see more of his icons for Bme...hope we get emoticons everywhere soon! regards, Tim _________________________________________________________________ MSN Search, for accurate results! http://search.msn.nl |

Hey Daniel, great news!!!! This is a giant leap forward for Bme....I've been adding lots of small things like viewing a contact profile, mailing a contact(currently only using your standard email program) and opening hotmail automatically....note that you need FireFox as your default browser for this. >I have good news for you. I have successfully requested and received a >user display picture (take a look, it's my brother's). This is a great >step forward, although there is still a lot of work in perfecting this >process. Right now some parameters of the request are hardcoded, taken >from an example session, those will need to be calculated. There is >also the matter merging my changes with the code in the CVS, storing >this image with the contact information, and also showing in the >Conversation window... I will be working on all of this issues. > I've been talking to Simon about this yesterday....currently the main window needs the following to be finished: -group support(viewing, adding, deleting groups and changing group names) -screennameview needs updating -tooltips need some work -maybe some people file support -updating the the login view (making it a bit fancier) after that the main window is finished.... The chat window needs more work! Simon is implementing the messageItem HistoryView (emoticon and link support) and I'll move on to a colour chooser and improve the font chooser, after that I'll have a look at the emoticon code...anyway let us know of any changes you make to the chatwindow! also I have some problems integrating groups support neatly into the program, so any help is appreciated... regards, Tim _________________________________________________________________ Play online games with your friends with MSN Messenger http://messenger.msn.nl/ |

Wow! Great work! Tim has done a lot of work on changing the way contacts are stored, so now I don't think it would be very much work to get a user pic stored too. As for the coversation windows, hopefully these will be linked much more closely to the contact list data, so the conv windows will be able to extract the picture right out of the contact list data. I'm working on the conversation window now (hope to have emoticons going in the history view by the end of the week), so I'm happy to do some work on displaying the pics in the conv window. That is, when we decide where to put them so they don't waste too much space... Big step forward though, well done! Simon > Hello guys, > > I have good news for you.
