I have the same problem, cvs checkout done at
2005-03-14.
I tried arecord to record something (I am not sure
about how to find the right thing for parameter -D) but
only got noise.

I use the Logitech Mobile Freedom Headset
(Bluetooth v1.2).
As suggested, I compiled linux-2.6.11.3.
Playback, volume controle, connect and disconnect
all work but alsa seems to have problems with
detected your driver as capure device:
$ cat /proc/asound/card1/pcm0c/info
card: 1
device: 0
subdevice: 0
stream: CAPTURE
id: Bluetooth SCO PCM
name: BT SCO PCM
subname: subdevice #0
class: 0
subclass: 0
subdevices_count: 1
subdevices_avail: 1
$ alsamixer -c 1 -V capture
No mixer elems found
alsamixer -c1 -V playback shows "Master", "Mic" and
"Loopback" (enabling this works). None of the
controls can be muted and Mic shows no capture
flag.
However, I cannot record from a source that no mixer
recognizes as capure. It must be some alsalib
internal stuff because the info ouput says that it's
CAPTURE.

Hmm, a problem in alsamixer _and_ kmix?
Additionally, the via82xx mixer panel looks fine.
However, I looks through the module code and Mic
seems to be correctly defined as capture PCM
channel.
Really strange...

Also, gnome-volume-control, kmix, and alsamixer -c1 all give
the same results. The mike control has no effect. The
master control adjusts or mutes the speaker volume. I don't
know what the loopback is supposed to do. There is no
obvious means for recording.
I went so far as to call myself to hear for myself the results.

Can you try this again with 2.6.11.3 or newer and cvs-current?

Ok, I see this too in alsamixer. But gnome-volume-control
seems to get it right. Could it be a problem in alsamixer?
Can you try some other mixers?
