I finally finished the word doc, as horrible as it is. I think I'll be releasing the RC tonight. Only 6 months or so after I began. -sigh- Oh well, better late than never. =========================================================================== Raymond Camden, ColdFusion Jedi Master for Mindseye, Inc (www.mindseye.com) Member of Team Macromedia (http://www.macromedia.com/go/teammacromedia) Email : jed...@mi... This is not in the zip yet, but last night I added color coding to blog cfc. All you do is wrap code with <code></code> and the blog will escape < and >, automatically add <br>s, and color the code (which is done w/ someone elses custom tag, I don't have his name in front of me). In a few tests I've done, it looks quite cool. =========================================================================== Raymond Camden, ColdFusion Jedi Master for Mindseye, Inc (www.mindseye.com) Member of Team Macromedia (http://www.macromedia.com/go/teammacromedia) Email : jed...@mi... Hey, I didn't know if everyone knew about this, but I thought that I'd mention it. Has everyone seen Sandy Clark's Blog? http://www.shayna.com/blog/ Sandy has taken Ray's Blog code (which version I am not certain) and stripped the table code out of the layout. Mind you, it looks generic on NN 4.7, but what is the percentage of people using that?(don't take the flame bait, please) Anyway, I just thought that I'd mention that to hopefully generate more discussion. There is only ONE thing I can think where it would matter, and that is a case where you change blog.ini settings. Of course, that is a rare thing, and we can add a 'regenRSSFile()' method or some such. Either way, I'll defintely consider it post 3.0. I'm going to be adding an instance of Lighthouse Bug Tracker for the project since I'm more comfortable w/ that then sourceforge. I'll use it to track stuff like this. -ray |

All, I am in the middle of implementing B3 locally, and I have these questions: 1) Is there a way for me to tell what files have changed from the B3 I downloaded last week and the one that is available today? And other than looking at the files side-by-side, is there a way to tell where a file has changed? I needed to integrate the new build but didn't want to overwrite the changes I have made to layout and such... 2) I was wondering if the layout could not be a little more abstracted (if that is the correct word). I like having control over what goes where. For instance, I like having the Recent Items pod at the bottom of the page and I only want to have 5 blog articles appear on the index. I guess that my question comes down to this: Do we want normal people to be able to create layouts for their blog, or will that require a CF developer? If normal people are targets, then should we find a way to create changes like the two I mentioned in a preferences setting (in the blog.ini?) or as part of some admin set-up process? (This isn't a change request. More of a 'Where are we going?' request.) 3) The "?reinit=1" code seems to work sporadically, but I am more comfortable with it now, and it surely is less painfull than restarting the service every time I needed to see a change. 4) Am I correct in thinking that the RSS feed is generated each time the cfm file is called? The RSS file gets updated each time an entry is made. So why have it hit the server for processing on each request. Why not have it generate an actual RSS file each time an entry is made and have an RSS file written at that time. Then refer people to the actual RSS file. Wouldn't that reduce server load? [OK, I *know* I am missing something here. I thought I'd stick my neck out far enough it might generate a discussion.] Leif =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Leif Wells Manager, Atlanta Macromedia User Group http://www.atlmmug.org lei...@ma... I cache the CF instances on start up. To clear the cache, add reinit=1 to the url, ie www.blog.com/index.cfm?reinit=1 This ALSO clears the content cache as well. FYI, Sandra Clark found a bug with editing entries that use th e<more> tag feature. GOing to fix sometime soon. =========================================================================== Raymond Camden, ColdFusion Jedi Master for Mindseye, Inc (www.mindseye.com) Member of Team Macromedia (http://www.macromedia.com/go/teammacromedia) Email : jed...@mi... All, Again, let me publicly admit that I am not a full-time ColdFusion developer... I am testing out beta 3 of the BlogCFC code on my laptop. Here are my comments: 1) Special thanks for the migrate1.cfm file. That file was extremely helpful when I created a new SQL database. 2) I am finding that I am having to restart my ColdFusion server instance to see changes that I have made to various layout files. Is this common, or am I doing something wrong? Thanks. Leif |

You can't assign one entry to N categories. This is because I used type="UUID" in the argument, and (unfortunately) <cfargument> doesn't support list="yes", which would be kind of cool I think. Anyway, will be corrected in the RC. =========================================================================== Raymond Camden, ColdFusion Jedi Master for Mindseye, Inc (www.mindseye.com) Member of Team Macromedia (http://www.macromedia.com/go/teammacromedia) Email : jed...@mi... Also, as you may know DRK5 has a Blog Man on it. Blog Man is a blogging app that uses XML as it's content media. Ray, I was just looking at a few blogs this morning and I realized that I don't think that I know about *all* the features that come with the BlogCFC application. For instance, does BlogCFC protect email addresses from being harvested by evil spammers? Could the comments in a BlogCFC blog be corrupted by comment spam? If so, how hard is it to block/clear? I guess I could be getting ahead of myself, but I just thought that it might be nice to have a feature list like some of the other blog applications have (and I didn't see a list at the sourceforge site). Thanks again for all the hard work. Leif =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Leif Wells Manager, Atlanta Macromedia User Group http://www.atlmmug.org lei...@ma... (404) 593-7408 |

There was a small bug in the RSS feed. To be honest, I designed the RSS feed by just looking at others. I _really_ need to spend some good time and get a firm grasp on the syntax. I'm going to try to get in a review for the RC, but I may wait till post release since it does work fine now. The zip online has been updated. ======================================================================== === Raymond Camden, ColdFusion Jedi Master for Mindseye, Inc (www.mindseye.com) Member of Team Macromedia (http://www.macromedia.com/go/teammacromedia) Email : jed...@mi... One thing I was considering was support for easy urls, so, if you write a nice blog post on locking, you could share the link as <your host>/<your blog root>/locking Of course, that won't help you know. If you really want to use the new blog, I'd just modify the migration script so that it creates a translation table, ie oldid newid 1 88888888 2 329344399 etc Then in your application.cfm, any request for url.id where id is NOT a UUID will do a quick call to the translation table. Not the speediest thing in the world, but it would be one quick db query, and you could cache the result. You could also output a simple msg on top (Please update your bookmarks to....) ======================================================================== === Raymond Camden, ColdFusion Jedi Master for Mindseye, Inc (www.mindseye.com) Member of Team Macromedia (http://www.macromedia.com/go/teammacromedia) Email : jed...@mi...
