FYI...energy web tool link from Annette.
 
The EDR Charrette webpage is pretty simplistic, but I was rather impressed
with eQuest (reminded me very much of a mix between Energy 10 and HBLC but a
front end for DOE 2 rather than BLAST).

Of particular note, I found the "spaceTypeEnum" attribute that they added
another example of a need for a more formal definition of Function in the
IFC's.

pioneering energy management solutions provider GeoPraxis, Inc. announced
the release of major user interface and energy code enhancements to the
popular building design web tool, EDR Charette. The EDR Charette, available
at EnergyDesignResources.Com <http://www.energydesignresources.com/> , is a
free online energy analysis tool that allows architects and other building
designers to easily estimate the energy and environmental impacts of their
earliest schematic designs. In mere minutes rather than hours, architects,
engineers, and others who design, build, and operate commercial buildings
can analyze and report the estimated energy costs of a building while it is
literally still on the drawing board. With point-and-click simplicity, the
Charette can also be used to carry out preliminary product assessments,
relative comparisons to California's Title-24 energy code, and determine how
much pollution the building will produce. 

The newly revised application is based on GeoPraxis' advanced IDEA
Server(tm) engineering simulation technology and was originally developed in
1999 for Southern California Edison's Energy Design Resources program. The
new updates expand the tool to the areas served by California's other major
utilities and reflect recent changes to California's energy code. Despite
the Charette's focus on California climates and codes, building designers
from all over the world still find the site useful, and it was recently
featured in Architectural Record magazine.

The EDR Charette allows users to look at different building types,
geometries, windows, insulation levels and HVAC equipment at the earliest
"charette" stage of design. "Charetting", which by one definition is the
process where architects "Listen ... Envision ... and then Draw Fast!" has
an honored place in the design process. It is perceived by many to be the
most stimulating portion of the design and the time when important design
options, including energy efficiency, are advanced and explored.
