Greetings all! I'm curious if anyone has had any luck accessing a Samsung Intensity II via BitPim. What did you do to get it working? I see that BitPim supports the SCH-U470 and since mine is a SCH-U460, I thought I might have some success but nay. I was able to connect to the device but unable to view the filesystem. I found this in the log: 22:46:40.283 Detect Phone result: { '/dev/cu.usbmodem1411': { 'mode_modem': True, 'mode_brew': False, 'firmwareresponse': None, 'esn': '', 'model': 'SCH-U460/236', 'firmware_version': 'Q6055BSOACLZ4390 1 [May 28 2009 06:00:00]', 'manufacturer': 'SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD.' }, 'usb::003::003-04e8-6640-02-00::2': { 'mode_modem': None, 'mode_brew': True, 'firmwareresponse': None, 'esn': None, 'model': None, 'firmware_version': None, 'manufacturer': None } } 22:46:40.283 Found phone:Other CDMA phone port:'usb::003::003-04e8-6640-02-00::2' 23:03:33.988 /dev/cu.usbmodem1411: Opening port /dev/cu.usbmodem1411, 115200 baud, timeout 3.000000, hardwareflow 0, softwareflow 0 23:03:33.988 /dev/cu.usbmodem1411: Open of comm port suceeded 23:03:33.988 Other CDMA Phone: Listing subdirs in dir: '' 23:03:33.988 Other CDMA Phone: X recurse=0 23:03:37.009 /dev/cu.usbmodem1411: Timed out - flushing and trying again 23:03:40.018 /dev/cu.usbmodem1411: Timed out waiting for 7e, requested bytes 1 - 0 bytes read 23:03:43.042 /dev/cu.usbmodem1411: Timed out - flushing and trying again 23:03:46.055 /dev/cu.usbmodem1411: Timed out waiting for 7e, requested bytes 1 - 0 bytes read 23:03:46.055 /dev/cu.usbmodem1411: Changed port speed to 38400 23:03:49.576 /dev/cu.usbmodem1411: Timed out - flushing and trying again 23:03:52.584 /dev/cu.usbmodem1411: Timed out waiting for 7e, requested bytes 1 - 0 bytes read 23:03:52.585 /dev/cu.usbmodem1411: Changed port speed to 115200 23:03:56.109 /dev/cu.usbmodem1411: Timed out - flushing and trying again 23:03:59.122 /dev/cu.usbmodem1411: Timed out waiting for 7e, requested bytes 1 - 0 bytes read 23:04:02.176 /dev/cu.usbmodem1411: Changed port speed to 115200 23:04:05.730 /dev/cu.usbmodem1411: Changed port speed to 19200 23:04:09.283 /dev/cu.usbmodem1411: Changed port speed to 230400 I have programming experience if it would be possible to add support. For this reason I have also subscribed to bitpim-devel. I am not sure what is involved in adding support for another phone. I would be happy to contribute to this project with a little guidance. I have checked out the svn and have been browsing the /src/phones/ directory. Please let me know of any resources which may help guide me in developing support for this phone. Thank you for your time. Best // CK |

Jon, Don’t hold your breath. Frankly, if *anyone* from the development list had talked to me about anything 5 years ago I might have installed the platform and fixed it. I should have. In the end I spent more time asking for help than it would have taken to fix it. I found my notes from back then (8/24/2008). I just checked and I see that the code has not changed. Here’s what I found back then... basically, once you hit 1,000 messages, an index gets set back to 0 and you get nothing, because this happens before you get any output. The index becomes a corrupt value. I would have changed the 999 to 2000 and also at least put some kind of warning when the limit is reached. And I don’t remember if I had overwrite set. I don’t recall that in the logs, but I don’t see how that would stop this problem. At first glance, 500 should not have caused a problem, but perhaps you aren’t counting the way the program does, because I don’t remember exactly what would count as an SMSEntry. Every message anywhere is my guess. I have no idea if anyone has the development platform running anymore. I see little traffic for bitpim anymore. Maybe you will have better luck than me finding someone who has it installed and who will take the 5 minutes it takes to follow my code and make a “Bitpim2000index” build version and send it for test. See below: ================================================================================ https://bitpim.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/bitpim/trunk/bitpim/src/sms.py class SMSEntry(object): ... _id_index=0 _max_id_index=999 ... def _create_id(self): "Create a BitPim serial for this entry" self._data.setdefault("serials", []).append(\ {"sourcetype": "bitpim", "id": '%.3f%03d'%(time.time(), SMSEntry._id_index) }) if SMSEntry._id_index<SMSEntry._max_id_index: SMSEntry._id_index+=1 else: SMSEntry._id_index=0 ... ================================================================================ ================================================================================ From: Jon Zadra Sent: Friday, August 23, 2013 6:33 PM To: bit...@li... Subject: Re: [BitPim-user] V3m does not transfer SMS Thanks Jim. Yes, I think I have a little over 500 messages, so if there is an upper limit that may be my problem too. I had assumed the 'Overwrite' in the log referred ot my choice to replace, rather than add to, the existing SMS messages if any were stored in BitPim. I will take a look next time I get a chance and see if the other selection changes that log message. Unless you ended up with a solution, don't worry about going through your notes. I'll wait and see if I get a response from anyone else. If it's anything useful, I'll pass it along. Thanks again, Jon On Fri, Aug 23, 2013 at 6:25 PM, Jim <jtu...@ms...> wrote: Hi, I used a Motorola Razr on Verizon from probably about fall of 2007 for at least a couple of years. I tried to use Bitpim to pull the SMS messages and had some of the same problems you describe now. At the time, I looked at the code and posted to the user group and developer group and no one was responsive at all. I believe this was in the summer of 2008, but maybe 2009. Let me ask this... do you have a lot of messages? I did. Notice the line in your log: 14:34:01.805 {'sms': 'OVERWRITE'} When I looked at the code back then, I found a loop which was used to read the messages was not set high enough for the number of messages I had stored. The loop had no warning when it was reaching the limit. >From what I could tell, the program would simply crash when it reached the end of the loop, before it processed the messages. I could never determine why there was no comment about the upper limit of the loop. Possibly, there was a memory issue if it was set higher, or, a develop just figured it was good enough... maybe higher than what the phones would store at the time the code was written. Most phones don’t keep more than 1,000 messages, but as I recall, the Razr could keep a lot more than that. I don’t recall even getting the message you got, so maybe someone tinkered with it since then. If you search my postings, other than frustration, you will see where I posted the suspicious line of code and the module it came from. As I remember, I put out a request that anyone running the platform change one number in the code and see if it would compile, and I offered to test it, since at the time, I didn’t feel like setting up the entire development platform. It seemed like a simple request. I debugged it, let someone else compile. No one ever responded. I would still be willing to test a custom version of Bitpim to see if it fixes the problem, as long as I know it comes from a developer. I won’t hold my breath. I’ll dig through notes if you wish to pursue this. take care, Jim From: Jon Zadra Sent: Friday, August 23, 2013 2:38 PM To: bit...@li... Thanks Jim. Hi, I used a Motorola Razr on Verizon from probably about fall of 2007 for at least a couple of years. I have an LG enV touch phone. I'm using Windows 7. I'm not sure what type of cord is used to attach the phone. BitPim says it's updated. Everything seems to work with the exception of some SMS messages being imported as gibberish symbols and letters. It will show a brief preview of the message in the Subject line, but the actual message that is supposed to be in the white box is gibberish. The issue appears to be associated with the same contacts time after time. I wonder if it's associated with users of Sprint phones, but I'm not certain if all of the people this problem occurs with are using Sprint or not. Is there a way to import the messages correctly like the rest of them? Other SMS messages etc import just fine. Suggestions/help? Please let me know if more info is needed. Thanks!! |

Hello, I have an issue with interpreting SMS messages received on my phone (LG-VX11000, also known as the enV Touch). When I view a message through BitPim, occasionally they appear (in the memo section) as a bunch of alt-code symbols and other gibberish (e.g. &X/@e0\MFK when the message was "Maybe earlier.") This seems to occur when the sender is using a certain Android smartphone (i.e, some Android messages come through fine, some don't), though what model(s) I am not sure. Oddly enough, the subject line above the memo comes out in normal English, but the subject line is already significantly reduced to be of any use in recall. All messages from non-Android users seem to come out in clear English. Please let me know if any other information would be of use. Thank you in advance for any help that can be provided. Jake |

I have been using BitPim for almost a year now and have stored everything from my phone(LG Dare) onto it. I recently lost my old phone and got a new one, and was trying to transfer the contacts from my old phone over. Unfortunately, I was having trouble getting BitPim to work with my new phone, which is an LG Revere.I read that the new version that I was using(1.0.7) was a test version or something, which might explain the errors I was having, and that the old one(1.0.6) might be more stable. So, I downloaded 1.0.6, assuming that the 1.0.7 version would be kept, or that I would be given the option to transfer the old files into the other version. However, when I was done, I could not find the version 1.0.7 and none of my files were in 1.0.6. Shouldn't the old files still be somewhere on my computer though? Is there some way I can go into the program files and recover them? I would greatly appreciate any help, as everything was stored on it(contacts, pictures, etc.). |

I don't know in your phone, but in mine the ring tones are just mp3 files that you should be able to transfer them like other files such as the pictures. Think of the phone as a mass storage device. However in VERY old phones (sprint samsungs?), the storage of some files is hidden and cannot be accessed as if they where on a computer disk, but hopefully that is not your case. Actually, as I think about it, not having used bit-pim in a while, it ought to be possible to export those tones and import them back into the other phone.
