Thanks. The Instrument server thread ([bika-dev]BIKA development, 
interfaces and usability) resulted in this top level design 
<http://www.bikalabs.com/softwarecenter/bika/roadmap/7/BLISSpec>, that 
still has to be converted to a technical spec... all comment welcome
