Dear Lemoene, In our lab we don't have experience with any of those software... because w= e don't need it! It's quite easy from Python to develop data acquisition routines. Our experience is both on Linux and Windows systems and, aside from the gra= phical user interfaces, the same code works smooth in both OS. Basically, for RS232 we use the pyserial module that provides abstraction r= egarding the OS. Then we usually build a class representing the equipment and with read() an= d write() methods. These two methods use functions of the serial module to communicate in the "language" understood by the equipment . In one case we even had to build a client-server application to control an = equipment where, for safety reasons, the equipment itself had to be isolate= d. We have done that using an old 486 for the server (a deamon), communicating= with the equipment by RS232, and communicating by TCP/IP with a client com= puter. Everything was in Python. >From our experience the main problem is to find the right documentation on = the communication settings and "language" to the equipment. But once we have that it is quite easy. Actually on the extensions to Bika we are working on, we include interfaces= to several equipments... If that may help you I can send you Monday our code to control a Mettler ba= lance. Just tell me if you are interested.
