thanks for the patches Thomas! I had also observed that bid count was
being displayed as "0", but hadn't found a fix. Unfortunately the
source code doesn't properly say what format it really expects. Your
helpers.cpp patch nicely fixes this!

Interesting. At work I have to use 7.9.8, and it works (using proxy and
my patch for curl support recently posted to ). I have actually
successfully sniped recently. Perhaps someone else needs to figure out
what's wrong. I don't have the capacity currently to compile other curl
versions and check with them, sorry.

Your no-proxy crash patch didn't apply to CVS for me, so I have
attached an updated patch (I hope it's correct).
