Hello, I recently installed MacOS 15.8.1, and once I did that, BeeBEEP stopped working correctly. We then updated all mac clients to Tahoe 26.7.1 but the issue persists. All clients are running BeeBEEP 5.8.6.

The problem is that certain users are showing offline to other users. I have one PC user that can see everyone, and everyone can see them. I have a second mac user that can see all users, and again everyone can see them. The rest of the users are showing offline to each other. See screen shot if that helps make sense.

I have tried 'Search for users...' and 'Test your connection' but these have failed. Please let me know what else to try?

    Hello,
Thank you for the screenshots and the log file, they were very helpful.

    What we found

The log shows that the affected Mac can receive connections from other users but cannot open connections to them. Every outgoing attempt fails with "Host unreachable", including the "Test your connection" check you ran. Discovery itself works, and the Mac does see the other users' broadcasts. This matches what you describe:

    • The PC and the second Mac connect out to everyone, so everyone can see them and they can see everyone.
    • The other Macs can't open connections to each other, so they appear offline to one another.

This is typical of the macOS Local Network privacy setting, which has been stricter since macOS 15 and can block an app's outgoing connections without any warning. It is not a problem with your network.

What to try, on each Mac that shows users offline

    1. Move BeeBEEP to the Applications folder if it's not already there, and open it from there.
    2. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network and make sure BeeBEEP is switched on. If it is already on, switch it off, switch it on again, then quit and reopen BeeBEEP.
    3. If BeeBEEP is not in the list, quit it, reopen it, and allow the request if macOS asks.
    4. If it still doesn't work, restart the Mac and test again. As a last resort, some users have fixed this by deleting /Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkextension.plist (it's recreated automatically) and then restarting. I can't guarantee this will work, so I'd try it only if the steps above fail.

    To confirm the cause (optional)

Open Terminal on an affected Mac and run, replacing the address with another user's IP:

    nc -vz 192.168.11.10 6475

If this reports "succeeded" while BeeBEEP still shows that user offline, the problem is the BeeBEEP permission above. If it fails too, let me know. Then we'll look at the network (for example, Wi-Fi client isolation on the access point).

We're also adding the proper Local Network declarations to the next BeeBEEP release, so macOS asks for this permission more reliably.

Please let me know the result, and send a new log if it's still not working.

I removed the logs from public download. I will check them as soon as possible.

I'm pretty sure you understand the problem...but here is one more screen shot of how BeeBeep appears on my mac, and how it appears on one of the others. Op1 is the only mac that can see everyone else in the office.
