Today, August 1, 2005, is the day our project officially begins. Here is the summary of the plans and goals I hope to achieve with BBCWiki:
BBCWiki will be an easy to use wiki-based content management built to be used with the PHP Hypertext Processor. The software's main focus will be adding BBCode and HTML markup with similar syntax to wiki pages - a change making creating wikis more user-friendly. Throughout the development process emphasis will be placed on making this CMS as user-friendly as possible, especially when it comes to installation and setup. The wiki will be designed with an interface that lets novice users easily understand and use this content management system. Another goal of this software will be maximizing user-configurability; this objective will be achieved by (1) providing the end-user with easy CSS (style sheet) configuration and (2) letting the user create custom markup for requested HTML functions. The wiki's engine will be designed from scratch, without basing it on any existing systems. Data will be stored in XML-based files created automatically by the program, thus enabling the user to bypass setting up databases by hand. User comments, suggestions, and ideas will be taken into consideration throughout all steps of the projects development; user-requested functions, if present, will be added to the main ones after main steps of development will be finished.
