Does moving AC_SYS_LARGEFILE just below the first round of programs =20 checks (at least AC_PROG_CC) help? BTW, please don't use SDL on X11 native platforms as you would not have =20= copy-paste of text through the X11 clipboard. The drawback of not using =20= SDL is not using their large set of output drivers. I could write a =20 hack to grab one of the SDL X11 displays but I have not tried yet, I =20 don't know if SDL is MT safe for events handling, though it's =20 documented to be so in the sources. > Among other things you can subscribe to new releases of the package = and > bugreports filed against it. Hi, I placed new source tarballs and RPMs at: <http://gwenole.beauchesne.free.fr/basilisk2/> User visible changes since 2004/11/09: * A Windows port is back with SDL graphics * The sheep_net driver now works properly with Linux kernels up to=20 2.6.11 * Fix networking code to really work on 64-bit systems * Add support for copy-paste of text through the clipboard (X11, MacOS=20= X, Windows) As usual, the Windows port suffers from lack of real maintainer.=20 Everything is now buildable out of the mainstream CVS. If that could=20 attract more developers to implement e.g. faster DirectX graphics... Bye, Gwenol=E9.= |

Hi, I placed new source tarballs and RPMs at: <http://gwenole.beauchesne.free.fr/sheepshaver/> Those interested in benchmarks can have a look at: * nBench: <http://gwenole.beauchesne.free.fr/benchmarks/nbench.html> * AltiVec Fractal Carbon:=20 <http://gwenole.beauchesne.free.fr/benchmarks/altivec.html> User visible changes since 2004/07/07: * Implement high-precision timings on POSIX systems * Add other SDL keysym translations * Add some SSE2 optimizations to the AltiVec emulation core * Add port to FreeBSD 5.3 and NetBSD 2.0 systems (x86 tested) * Add initial port to Windows with SDL graphics * Fix interrupt handling, registers are now fully preserved * Fix support for native execution on recent Linux/PPC systems * Fix support for Gossamer ROMs (PowerMac G3 Beige) * Fix crash in Apple Personal Diagnostics on MacOS 9 * Fix crash in Power Management on MacOS 9 Packager related changes: * Fix FPU synthetic opcodes when compiled with -mtune=3Di686 and GCC >=3D=20= 3.3 (Cygwin) * Fix build with recent enough assembler on x86-64 (Fedora Core 3,=20 Mandrakelinux 10.1) * Fix AltiVec emulation core to be independent of GCC intrinsics thus=20 avoiding bugous generated code with e.g. Gentoo GCC 3.3 (it was fine=20 with MDK and SuSE gcc though). Note about SDL graphics: it's currently suboptimal. Always prefer X11=20 graphics where applicable on standard X11 Unixish platforms: e.g.=20 Linux, NetBSD, etc. On the same platform, it was measured a up to 4x=20 times video performance boost with Linux/X11 instead of Windows/SDL. Hi, I have just committed a few changes to the AltiVec emulation. First, I=20= totally nuked the use of GCC intrinsics as some people had a bugous=20 compiler, that would have caused some incorrect results. Next, I=20 noticed I wasn't using SSE2 optimizations, that's now fixed. As a=20 bonus, my system now flies at 1025 Megaflops with AltiVec Fractal=20 Carbon (vs. 807 MegaFlops previously): <http://gwenole.beauchesne.free.fr/benchmarks/altivec.html> Does someone know about another altivec benchmark that may use integer=20= vectors? The G4 HINT benchmark can be interesting but I don't have a=20 CodeWarrior new enough to compile it. Some slight improvements are possible but I will see if the Windows=20 port can be brought up to date. Bye, Gwenol=E9.= |

Hi, SheepShaver is working again natively on Linux/PPC. As a bonus, it should= also work on Linux/ppc64 with adequate 32-bit runtime. Natively supporting Linux/ppc64 is more difficult as current implementation assumes some poin= ters are stored in 32-bit lowmem globals. That could be solved but it's not my priority. Tested-on: Mandrakelinux 10.2 beta for PowerPC. Note: r13 preservation on Linux/ppc is lesser tested but it seems it's no= t clobbered anyway since around year 2k toolchain. On the NetBSD/ppc front, I got SheepShaver booting up to MacOS 9.0.4 onec= . However, it's crashing at various points. Could be stack (r1) corruption = or other register corrupted (r31?). It can hardly be caused by clobbered r2 = since NetBSD/ppc apparently doesn't use it as a real "system-wide" register. Ne= ither does it seems to clobber r13. In short, I currently don't know the exact = cause of the problem. I have a question: I would like to rebuild the MacOS-side drivers, namely= Video and Ethernet 'ndrv'. Would that be possible somehow within MacOS X instea= d of BeOS? Metrowerks^WMotorola had a CodeWarrior toolchain for MacOS X IIRC, however my latest license was for 5.3 when I was still a student. FYI, the current TODO for bug fixes look like: - Fix support for MacOS < 8.0. - Fix support for more than 64/128 MB of memory when RAM_BASE is located = below 0x10000000. - Fix MMX/SSE optimizations in AltiVec code when compiled with Cygwin too= lchain. I have lots of features pending in my head and various testcases/snippets= but it's time other projects come out too. And spare time is shrinking once m= ore again. :-( Bye, Gwenol=E9. ----- End forwarded message ----- |

Hi! I used the last build of 19th January '05 and booted perfectly and installed from the MacOS 7.6 Spanish CD, but it is unable to boot from the hard disk. It hangs forever in the happy mac icon. There are no strange messages from command line. The ROM used is from a PowerMac 7500. Host machine is MacOS X 10.3.7 in a PowerBook G4. Regards, Natalia Portillo |

Hi! I tried to run SheepShaver on Windows from the .exe.bz2 that is in the webpage and it says that the ROM is unsupported, when, however, the ROM works in SheepShaver under MacOS X. Regards, Natalia Portillo |

Looks like it works great, nice job! I have no problems running it at 60 fps; according to Speedometer it's about twice as fast as a real Quadra 650, which is OK considering there's no JIT. With the "normal" version I only get a black screen on startup though. --Eric |

Probably not as fast as SheepShaver now is, and it also has no sound, but if you are in the mood to experiment, grab the "classic" version from: http://www.users.bigpond.com/pear_computers I am curious if there are any G5 bugs. -- Nigel Pearson, ni...@in...| "Let's see how Spike is going" Telstra BI&D, Sydney, Australia | ... When you say it=20 > doesn't work, what does it do? Well, that works better now too. :) Not quite perfect though: If I=20 have OSX in millions of colors, SheepShaver works fine as long as it's=20= set to thousands of colors or less. In millions of colors, the display=20= (in SheepShaver) turns to something similar to random garbage. If I have OSX set to thousands of colors, SheepShaver works OK at=20 first. If I switch the colors to 256 and then back to thousands, the=20 display does the "random trash" thing. That's only in 800x600...in=20 640x480, there is no problem switching back and forth. > Can you start SheepShaver from the console so that you could possibly=20= > get error messages? > > Bye, > Gwenol=E9. Sure, this is what I get when starting up: Paranoia checks... ...passed Reading ROM file... Using SDL/coreaudio audio output VOSF acceleration is not profitable on this platform, disabling it WARNING: Unknown CPU type WARNING: RmvTime(206ba1e4): Descriptor not found When shutting down, I get this: WARNING: RmvTime(20821ff4): Descriptor not found The "unexpectedly quit" message appears about the time that "WARNING:=20 Unknown CPU type" is printed; don't know if there's any relationship. Looking at SheepShaver.crash.log, I see this: Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x0592d000 Thread 0 Crashed: ...and then there's a big infodump if you want it. --Eric |

Strange, someone reported a problem in 16-bit mode I have recently=20 fixed and I always use "windowmodes 3" aka 800x600. When you say it=20 doesn't work, what does it do? Can you start SheepShaver from the=20 console so that you could possibly get error messages? Bye, Gwenol=E9. |

Hi there, I've acquired a G5 somewhat recently, and discovered that, yes indeed, Classic isn't as compatible as all that. So, having had pretty good luck with SheepShaver in the past, I tried the pre-compiled OSX version that Gwenole has available for download. Well, it does work! Pretty much. The application unexpectedly quits when I launch it, except it doesn't...MacOS boots right up in a window, though the SheepShaver menu doesn't work, so it has to be force-quit if you want it to stop. The graphics in 800x600 mode are messed up...completely so if I have OSX running in millions of colors, partially so in 256 colors, and SheepShaver won't run at all if I'm using thousands of colors. With 640x480, everything is fine. I haven't tried compiling from source yet to see if that gets rid of any of those problems. Sound support would be useful, but so far this is looking quite promising as a more compatible replacement for Classic on recent Macs. --Eric |

Hi, "down" is currently unreachable. Just posting here in case the=20 university network is unreachable either. Thanks, Gwenol=E9.= |
