linking a pitcher to his pitches

    BBOS newbie here. There is no pitcherID field in mlb.pitches, though there is a pitcherID field in mlb.atbats. What happens when a manager yanks a pitcher in the middle of an at-bat?

    Hi Dave,

    As per the gameday data (since 2005) it doesn't happen too often that a pitcher is changed in the middle of an at-bat.

    I was able to find only 2 cases:
    gid_2005_04_25_minmlb_detmlb_1 (At Bat Num: 73 and 74)
    gid_2005_08_04_nyamlb_clemlb_1 (At Bat Num: 68 and 69)

    As you can see even if is the same At Bat both events have different AtBat ID (aka Num)

    You are safe using AtBat to link the PitcherID into the pitches table.
