Hello, As you are probably aware, we are working on making a beta release of version 1.39.18. The code is *far* from being complete, and the documentation on the new features, with the exception of RunScripts, is almost non-existent, but I think the database format that currently exists is sufficient for a 1.40 release, and the code is quite stable. I have run the full regression scripts on Linux (SuSE), FreeBSD, and Solaris (no tape tests yet), and all pass OK. What remains is for me to run the few regression scripts I have on the new Win32 FD, then put the whole thing in production here for a few days. Unfortunately, the timing is not ideal since I will be attending the marriage of my son-in-law in Norway from 8 Aug - 13 Aug. If all goes well, we will release it before my vacation, which is not particularly cool -- "release and run" :-) Rather than try to fix a date, I will let everyone know on the appropriate email lists. For packagers, please note that if you install the programs in the tools directory, there may be additional programs since 1.38, though I think I have included them all in 1.38.11. Probably the biggest three changes for packagers are: 1) the --mandir configure option has changed meaning. Rather than pointing to the final destination directory, it now points to the base of the various man subdirectories (man1, man2, ...). 2). there are now a good number man pages that are installed (previously there was 1). They are installed in man1 (4 pages) and man8 (12 pages). These man pages still need a lot of work, but they are located in the directory <bacula-source>/manpages, and installed by the normal "make install" command. 3). the Win32 version is now built on Linux/Unix and is capabable of installing not just the File daemon (client) but also the Director and the Storage daemon. There may be a few other changes concerning packaging that I have forgotten. If you run into any, please document them in an email to this list. Best regards, Kern |
