Does bacula include (or plan to include) any support for NDMP (Network Data Management Protocol). I am assuming that it doesn't since I am unable to find anything in the bacula manual referring to NDMP. For those who dont know what it is (including myself 30 minutes ago), it is an open standard for performing network backups. NDMP seems to follow the same general architecture that bacula does, so I dont see why bacula wouldn't be able to communicate with NDMP enabled clients. The reason for the inquiry is because a number of NAS devices, such as those made by Sun, run an OS that is inaccessible to the administrator. This prevents the bacula-lover in all of us from running the fd client directly on the box. Instead, the best option at the moment for backing up such a device it to mount the directories via NFS and perform backups that way. Has anyone looked at this issue? Has it perhaps already been deemed "not do-able" for some reason? If it hasn't been looked at before and the bacula community think it might be beneficial, I will look into the possibilities.
