The company I work for builds time attendance systems and access control devices running an embedded Linux system.
We think about adding some bacnet services to our controllers to increase connectivity. Our userspace application is currently a closed-source product - mostly because of NDAs for some of the already implemented communication protocols.
Do you see a possibility to use your BACnet implementation within our system ?
I can't link your GPL'd code to our programs without violating the GPL, so at this time my only option is to build the BACnet drivers myself.
Thank you very much,
Thomas
PS: In my opinion most of the potential users (and, therefore, volunteers) of bacnet4Linux will be in a similar situation, so I think that the project will benefit from a switch to a more liberal license (e.g. LGPL).

Many people have asked that I re-licence this project as something more liberal than the GPL. I can certainly understand where you are coming from.
However, on the flip side, I want this project and its contributions to be available to anyone to use, with everybody's contributions added to the whole. My hope is that this, in its own small way, will help advance BACnet.
From the various emails I've read on the subject, I believe a licence change to the LGPL would sufficiently meet everyone's goals. Therefore, as the copyright holder, I give permission to change licence to the LGPL. Steve, please update the code/docs for the next revision to reflect this change.
If anyone still has further issues with the licensing, please reply to me (grh@users.sourceforge.net) and I'll consider your requirements.
Incidentally, recent events will hopefully lead to me being able to be more active in the ongoing work of this project.
Greg

I also agree to changing my contributions to the code to the LGPL.
