[Bacnet-developers] New to BACnet stack

Hi all,

First I'd like to thank all those who have contributed to this open source project, I'm finding it to be a great resource.

I have just started looking at this project, so far I have compiled it on a linux machine and managed to get the demo programmes running.

I am not a software developer so I though I can get the software to run I haven't quite worked out how to make changes, though I am willing to learn. i hoe you will forgive me asking questions which may be quite basic.

I would like to add more points to the demo server, but I just can't figure out which file or files I have to modify and how to modify them. Could someone give me an example of how to another AV point to the demo server?

I would also like to run the demo server and a client appliccation like WriteProp on the same PC, I saw this answer in the FAQ 

Use the BACnet/IP BACnet Virtual Link Control (BVLC) features. The client demo applications are configured to use environment variables to establish a BBMD connection as a foreign device. Set the BACNET_BBMD_PORT and BACNET_BBMD_ADDRESS of the BBMD, and use a non-standard BACNET_IP_PORT value. Note that the demo/server application is configured as a BBMD.

The question I have is how do I set these environment variables and the how do I set the BACNET_BBMD_PORT and BACNET_BBMD_ADDRESS of the BBMD?
