OK, so for all of you that chewed glass while going through my original
patch, apologies for the coding, it was pretty crap.  I have cleaned it
up, and will post a patch just as soon as Sourceforge cvs stops giving
me "end of file" messages.  Still light on javadoc, but much easier to
read.
