Hey Charles, > Hi Eric. Your chat applet is exactly what I had been looking for to use on my website! I'm having trouble with the setup though. I have setup the tables exactly as you have them in the babelchat.mysql file, but I am not sure which files I need to change to point at SQL Server instead of mysql. You should change server.conf. While I've never used it with SQL Server, it should be possible. The server connects to the database using JDBC, Java Database Connectivity. JDBC offers drivers for most databases including SQL Server. Find JDBC drivers for SQL Server and replace the line in server.conf to point to the proper drivers. You'll have to modify your classpath to point to the SQL Server drivers instead of the mysql drivers. > I'm also fairly new to Java development. What does line 3 on your install mean? Do I skip this part since I've already manually created the tables? > 3. cat babelchat/docs/babelchat.mysql|mysql babelchat That's the line that imports the database described in babelchat.mysql into mysql. If you've already got it in SQL server, you can ignore this. > Also what does line 1 on client install mean? > 1. mv babelchat/client /path/to/webdocs/babelchat mv in UNIX world is MOVE in dos world. That just means move the client directory into your webhost directory. Best of luck, let me know how it goes. Eric |
