Ali noticed a number of issues as he was finishing a figure:

white series renderer on white background gives warning bubble, but also doesn't plot. It should plot because the plot is on top of another plot which is a spectrogram.
ticks ephem doesn't load with manual ticks
we wanted a log axis with major ticks at 1 and 5 and minor at 2,3,4,6,7,8,9. 1,5/2,3,4,6,7,8,9 didn't work.
fonts embedded within PDF file may not have the bold and italic versions of the fonts.
the annotation arrow didn't refresh as it was drug. On Windows, clear background.

Also we noticed the PDF transparency bug exists in the production version v2021a_9, when documentation says it was fixed by then. My guess is I'd forgotten to git push some code. This makes the production release a bit more urgent.

Also, (7) when the canvas size is fixed, draw a gray border line since it's white on white and you can't see where the edge is.

(8) When two plots are on top of one another, don't draw opposite axis.

(4) Ali reports that this worked when the font was not substituted, using Roboto.

(1) is fixed. The code returned after issuing the warning, and now it is allowed to continue painting.

Regarding (7), my monitor's contrast was adjusted so that I couldn't see the gray area surrounding the plot. I don't think anything needs to be done here.

(8) is done, where the opposite side isn't drawn if there's an axis over there.

(9) Also Ali reminded that things don't load nicely when manual ticks are used for the time axis, and for the y axis, the formatter is often wrong.

The ticks descriptor, which has a suggested formatter, now checks for units and will set the Formatter for a times.

I don't believe that the bold font is embedded. Load https://github.com/autoplot/dev/blob/master/demos/2021/20211014/manaulTicksAndItalics.vap and then save as pdf.

After further experiment, I found I didn't have the font correctly installed. It does appear the indent and embolden properly.

(10) "1,5/0.3,0.6,3,6" doesn't work because code assumes minor ticks are integers
