The autoplay feature is great, but at the moment is not very practical. Some drum samples can last up to 10 seconds, only because the sample tries to capture every nuance of the decay, but for the purpose of auditioning samples I only need to hear the first 1 or 2 seconds, so it would be useful to have a setting to play the first N seconds only when using Autoplay (with a checkbox to disable it in case some users want to use this).
A dedicated button for Autoplay could be placed on the button bar at the top of the main UI, next to the Play button, etc. The function of the current Play button depends on the state of the Autoplay checkbox in the preferences, which takes a lot of clicks to toggle on/off. As a result, I end up not going down the path of least resistance which is not to use autoplay.
Finally, I'd love to be able to re-play a sample from the keyboard. At the moment samples only play when clicked with the mouse or when selected via the arrow keys. The spacebar key would be a good candidate for triggering play/stop, as this is how most DAWs work.
1) Hitting Spacebar while a sample is playing re-triggers the sample from the start.
2) Hitting Esc, or the S key, stops playback
3) If autoplay is engaged, pressing spacebar the first time stops autoplay
4) Pressing spacebar a second time triggers the sample from the start, and autoplay remains disengaged.
5) To engage autoplay from the keyboard, press Alt+Space
Currently Spacebar is used for "add to favorites", but the keyboard has many other keys. Why not use the F key to do this, and leave the spacebar key available for playing samples?
Maybe make it an option to double-click a sample to view it in explorer, when auditioning samples via the mouse I find myself double-clicking by accident, especially for short samples.
Thanks!
There's one other small thing, clicking a currently selected cell doesn't play that cell. To re-play a sample, one must first click another cell, then click back on the previous one. Some times it's useful to trigger the same sample a few times.
