I think it would make more sense to use Github for this kind of
collaboration - that was actually one of the main reasons for moving
the whole project from SF.net to Github.com. In Github it takes just
one or two mouse clicks to merge your changes, I believe.

what's wrong with creating a github account, even if it is owned by
Microsoft? You can always use fake email and other credentials if you
care about your privacy.

If you insisted on using your github server then yes, it would still be
better than a bunch of patches in the mailing list.
