Hi all, I have just released a new version of Atari800 with a few fixes and some improvements. https://github.com/atari800/atari800/releases/ Binaries will appear there shortly, hopefully (if someone builds them). Petr |

Hello, The changelist for Atari 800 4.1.0 says it has "fixed building of the Android target." Has anyone been able to compile for Android and provide the executable? Thanks so much. Bruce Baier |

I have to reinstall MiNT (hard disk died) anyway so I think I postpone it until my MiNT installation is back again. But it is good to know how to get atari800 running in a window under TOS. |

The plain falcon version uses only some basic VDI setup, i.e. no GEM at all. Hi atari800-users on an ATARI falcon, today I tried out the latest version of atari800 4.1.0 on my ct63 equipped falcon and it runs full speed even with sound enabled. Wow. So thanks a lot to all of those people involved getting atari800 running on the ATARI falcon. I am using atari800 since the good old days where I tried it on my afterburner/nova equipped falcon and I really appreciate that it has been supported over the years (and still is). So my thanks go to not only Miro for the latest version but also to Petr for maintaining the ATARI 16-Bit part for so long and of course for all the others that contributed. I just tried ATARI800 with TOS 4.04 and SuperVidel (-videl switch) but is there a way to get it running in a window? With MiNT perhaps? Best regards, patjomki |

Is there a way to show the main Atari screen as well as an 80-column hardware device at the same time in separate windows? I was thinking this was possible, but I don't see an option that'll allow anything besides one or the other. I also could just be smoking something and remembering a XEP80 support prototype I briefly worked on many years ago. |

James, Have you read the descriptions at DOC/cart.txt? The links there should provide some useful information. Anyway, let me chime in as the developer of both mappings. OSS_8 is the banking used by OSS's "The Writer's Tool". It was an 8KB banking cartridge that used OSS's single-chip PCB, the same they used in some of their 16KB cartridges. The mapping in Atari800 was implemented by analysing the PCB schematics. http://www.retrobits.net/atari/osshack.shtml LOW_BANK_8 was used by "Monkey Wrench II for the Atari XL". It maps itself to $8000-9FFF. While I haven't seen the cartridge's PCB, the result can be easily achieved by asserting the RD4 line while not asserting the RD5 line, and I believe that's what they used back in 1983. The implementation is based on this assumption. As the instruction manual for "Monkey Wrench II for the Atari XL" states, the cartridge must be initialised by user by entering "X=USR(32768)", because the XL/XE operating system removed support for initialisation of "right cartridges". https://atariage.com/forums/topic/161828-hooked-on-8-bit-carts/?do=findComment&comment=2338297 So, to answer your question: On 12.10.2019 at 21:27, James Wilkinson wrote: > do they represent real cartridges that existed in the wild Yes. Thanks. Especially in the MRII thread, there is a lot of supposition about how the XL cart may or may not have worked, which to me says it may or may not have matched up to the LOW_BANK_8 scheme. Of course, I may have misunderstood something in there that 100% answers the question. Have I? The ACE-80 thread does seem to support that OSS_8 was a legit cart layout at one time and was used for that. Is that how you read it as well? A$ 50 GOTO 30 60 CLOSE #1 (As usual, [Ctrl]+[1] to pause text output, if it starts scrolling too fast for you) I haven't toyed with sub-directories. I should really go look into the documentation or source code to what the H: driver actually delivers! I've obviously only ever used it for only the most extremely basic file xfer purposes. ;) -bill1 |

To set up an H device you need to go to emulator configuration and set… Disable BASIC when booting Atari: NO H: Device (hard disk): Read/Write H1: <FULL path of the folder to be the H1 disk> You can then boot the emulator and should get a READY prompt, from which you can LOAD “H:PROGNAME.BAS” Note H1 and H are synonyms If you want to do a directory listing or copy files etc. as Bill said you will have to also put a DOS2.5 disk in the D1: slot. Then you can type DOS to get a dos menu. From the dos Manu, typing A<return> H:<return> Will give you a directory listing, if you get an error you probably have a mistake in your H path Steve > On Sep 28, 2019, at 16:09, Phil Barnhart <phi...@gm...> wrote: > > I downloaded the atari800win 4.1 emulator and have access to a lot of games. > > However, I'd like to use BASIC as well. Bill, Phil says he'd like to SAVE a BASIC program to his COMPUTER. Saving to Host requires using the H: device. H: device does not need a DOS, it's emulated completely, I believe (hope I'm not wrong here). You can either save the tokenized form (unreadable on Host) using SAVE "H1:PROGRAM.BAS" or you can save the text version (fully readable and even editable on Host) using LIST "H5:PROGRAM.LST" Using H5 instead of H1 for texts is better because there's auto conversion of end-of-line characters. Error 130 means that either the path to host is not set correctly or that the destination cannot be written to (the latter might be a different error code, though). AtariMania has Atari DOS 2.5 here, for example: http://www.atarimania.com/utility-atari-400-800-xl-xe-dos-25_s13808.html Anyhow, once you're up and running, it sounds like you already know this (but in case anyone else comes along and sees this archived, later), you can use the SAVE and LOAD (and RUN) commands to save & load your program. e.g.: SAVE "D:MYGAME.BAS" then later LOAD "D:MYGAME.BAS" or to load-and-run in one command, you can give RUN an optional filespec! RUN "D:MYGAME.BAS" Generally, "D:" is short for "D1:" (disk drive 1), but in some DOSes (e.g., MyDOS) this can be changed to different drives, or sub-directories! (My typical steps when firing up MyDOS to do some programming in TurboBASIC XL is to boot to the DOS menu, tell it to set up RAMdisk as drive #9 ([O]), format it ([I]), and then use it as my 'current directory' ([R]), then load TBXL ([L]).)
