Hi! Here's a good question. Anyone got a good answer? (He didn't mention what emulator he's using, but since I can only use Atari800, that's all I can answer :) ... he also didn't mention what OS. I know I've seen some Unix/Linux tools to convert an ATR to and from a subdirectory, but it might make sense to see .BAS loading supported right in the emulator itself... similar to the '-run' option) In the meantime, I'll suggest H: device to him :) -bill! ----- Forwarded message from Bill <el...@op...> ----- Date: Mon, 31 Dec 2001 09:23:03 -0400 From: Bill <el...@op...> Subject: Thanks To: bi...@ne... I've received the FAQ. Thanks again; I would like to ask a question... I've DL many ( .bas ) files from all the wonderful people keeping ATARI alive. Question is how do I get the ( .bas ) file on the ATARI emulator virtual drive... Please Advise and give example; thank you for your time in this matter. Hi Petr! Hi Listies ! :o) A happy and successful new year to you all ! Frist of all I want to say a big THANK YOU for this emazing piece of software! I felt myself beamed back into "good old times" again! I am new to this list and with the atari800-emulator...so may be the following is a so called "stupid" question ... ;-) I am using the atari800-emulator version 1.2.2 and compiled it on a Linux box with a recent kernel and gcc 2.95.3. My first question is regarding the options list available with ./configure: There are some options which seems to me contradictionary to their descriptions available vi ./configure --help. For example: --enable-NO_VOL_ONLY Enable volume only sound (digitized sound effects) The option itsself says NO VOL(UME) ONLY and the description says the opposite: ENABLE volume only What's true? Same goes for the next options: --enable-NO_CYCLE_EXACT Enable color changes inside a scanline (cycle exact) --enable-NO_CONSOL_SOUND Enable console sound (keyboard clicks) --enable-NO_LED_ON_SCREEN Display LED on screen --enable-NOSNDINTER Enable Sound Interpolation What is true: The functionality implied in the otion's name or the description? Next: Despite the fact that I enabled --enable-USE_CURSORBLOCK the cursorblock does not work for me under X11...would be nice since I cannot manage to use the mouse as joystick (the latter is a problem of mine not of the software of course! ;-) Next: Enabling --target=x11-shm leads to the following compile error: -- gcc -c -o atari_x11.o -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -O3 -ffast-math -fomit-frame-pointer -march=pentiumpro -mpentiumpro -malign-functions=4 -funroll-loops -fexpensive-optimizations -malign-double -fschedule-insns2 -mwide-multiply -I/usr/X11R6/include atari_x11.c atari_x11.c: In function `Atari_DisplayScreen': atari_x11.c:2608: `draw_display' undeclared (first use in this function) atari_x11.c:2608: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once atari_x11.c:2608: for each function it appears in.) make: *** [atari_x11.o] Error 1 -- What did I wrong ? The rest of the compile options I used were (I wrote a little script for that): #!/bin/sh make clean \ ./configure --target=x11-shm --prefix=/usr --enable-shared=yes --enable-static=no\ --enable-CRASH_MENU \ --enable-MONITOR_BREAK \ --enable-MONITOR_HINTS \ --enable-MONITOR_ASSEMBLER \ --enable-SNAILMETER \ --enable-USE_CURSORBLOCK \ --enable-LINUX_JOYSTICK \ --enable-SOUND \ --enable-NO_CONSOL_SOUND \ --enable-NO_VOL_ONLY \ --enable-SERIO_SOUND \ --enable-NOSNDINTER \ --enable-BUFFERED_LOG && \ make (I supposed for that script, that the option /description/ is correct...) Last question: I have a couple of old atari800 disks written on a atari810 station. I still own my atari800 and the 810 disk station but I lost the sio cable to connect both. Does anyone knows, where I can get a replacement cable (or the connectors alone... soldering should not be a problem...I am living in germany...) What possibilities do I have to send those files to my Linux box? Thank you very much for your help and understanding and sorry for this longish posting... Keep hacking! Meino |

Hi All, I have just released the Atari800 v1.2.2. Source code (tar ball) is available. Binaries: DOS, TOS - uploaded Linux RPM - can be built automatically using rpm -tb Linux DEB - will appear in Debian unstable soon, hopefully WinCE - Vasyl, please download the DOS version, replace the binaries with WinCE binaries, possibly update INSTALL or USAGE, zip it to atari800-1.2.2-wince.zip (or whatever is appropriate for WinCE) and upload it to ftp://upload.sf.net/incoming/ (log in as anonymous). Then let me know that it's there. DX, Amiga, Mac - volunteers, please announce here you would compile it and then do the same as described above (just alter the filename) and again let me know it's been uploaded. Thanks! Petr |

> I have just released the Atari800 v1.2.1. Don't waste your time by downloading this release. It was made in a midnight hurry by a slightly drunken guy. Let's wait for 1.2.2 which should appear in a few minutes. Seriously, when I saw what I messed up last night I sat down and wrote a script for generating the releases (I have been doing it by hand so far - that's why there were the errors like not updated atari.h etc). Sorry for any inconvenience. Petr |

I just found out that one of binaries I recently downloaded doesn't work with Atari800Win Plus 3.0beta, while it works with version 2.8. The new version uses Atari800 core v1.2.0, the old one uses v1.0.6. I'm attaching the problematic binary. Even in the old version there is a small graphics bug inside the music player, while it worked fine with the real Atari. However, this bug may be caused by a bug in the binary I found (it's not the one I used on my Atari). PG P.S.: M. C. & H. N. Y. to everyone ;-) |

Hi, after four days of waiting the staff at sf.net finally imported the tar ball with our CVS to sf.net. So go to http://sf.net/projects/atari800 and click on the CVS tab to find out details about accessing this new CVS. Petr |

I've posted a8-816-pbi.tgz on my web page. That contains a diff file that should turn a 1.2.0 source tree into the same source that I'm playing with. Manual addition of the pbi.o object to Makefile is needed, though. The code needs a lot of work (especially to pretty it up where it makes more sense). Due to copy/paste operations, there's a mix of tabs and spaces in a few files. Most people will want to use the stock antic files. I did make changes since my last diff to only show the actual screen area displayed by ANTIC (based on timing data in the Atari Hardware Manual). I even found a program that uses wide playfield mode (Hollywood Medieval, a graphics and sound demo, I guess). Still, it's not perfect and needs more work (mostly just the PM graphics portion). I just put my rewritten diskled module source on my Atari page (www.magelair.com/atari_8bit_stuff.htm). ASCII characters 33 to 126 (space to tilde) are all defined, leaving 0 (which won't be used by the current code, so I should probably remove those 8 bytes) to 32 are all blank (ok, so 32 should be blank, as it's the ASCII space character). The code allows normal/inverse and red/green display of the disk LED (the optional turbo LED always uses inverse and green). If you aren't using my modified CPU code, please remove the "#define HAVE_TURBO" line from diskled.c before compiling. As the #define macros in diskled.h have been adjusted to reflect the updated capabilities, you'll need to make sure that all modules that use those macros get recompiled, too. The LED font size was increased from 5x7 to 5x8 to better support various special and lower case characters (i.e.. comma, semi-colon, g, j, etc.). Nate |

As anyone else noticed the inefficiency of the current (v1.2.0 source) LED code? Why are we using a 35 byte cell definition when it can be done in 7 bytes, plus why use 2 cell definitions for read/write when the led_status variable can also be used as the color selection? Imagine if Atari had to define both normal and inverse characters in the font table. We'd have 2k font tables instead of 1k. Ok, so I'm talking about turning 630 bytes into 126 in a program that may not even care about such little changes. But, imaging if a complete 128 or 256 character font was desired for the LED display. That's be 4480 or 8960 bytes with the current code. I'm going to rewrite the diskled.[ch] files and place them on my web site soon, if anyone is interested. Nate |

I have what seems to be a functional virtual PBI IDE controller module. Most of the code is in pbi.[ch] and ide.h with minor patches to memory-d.[ch] and atari.c. I have most of the circuit already designed, I just need to tweak a few things and release it. I still need to add a way to access the raw hard drive (for partition manipulation), but that's a ROM change. The design allows 16 banks of 2k ROM in the $D800-$DFFF range and 16 banks of 512 byte SRAM in the $D600-$D7FF range. The SRAM is handled completely in the pbi.c file, but the ROM had to be done in both pbi.c and memory-d.c (I haven't done a paged memory port of these changes). The advantage of the virtual PBI is that we can easily add CIO and SIO level RS-232 support (whether we tie directly to a serial port, tie into a TCP/IP port, or both). The PBI device can be activated without needing a hard drive file. I don't have code in there to give a "no media" error as of yet, but that should be real easy. If anyone has some input on desired functionality (besides ASPI, I already plan to add that) please let me know. Nate |

Hi, subject says it all. Please help me with updating the documentation for final 1.2.1. WinCE, Amiga - INSTALL/README/USAGE. X11-shm patches. Amiga update... The configure asks no questions now thanks to a patch from Dale Scheetz. There is also a RPM .spec file. Dunno if it works or not but it should allow simple binary build from the source.tar.gz directly with one command, AFAIK. Petr |

I had to search voor cygz.dll and cygwin1.dll on the net now. The dx bin package appears to be poorly made. Nevertheless people seem to like it :-) Properly build binary should run without cygwin dll and there should be no joycfg in the package. I will upload proper package when Petr allow me this. I'm pretty much done with a virtual PBI module. What I mainly need to know is if there is some sort of existing partitioning software that I should make my PBI ROM compatible with. Essentially, I had taken the SmartIDE design and turned it into a PBI device (never actually built it, though). I'm writing this virtual PBI device to emulate the hardware I designed (thus allowing me to develop the software without having to worry about the hardware). I've got it mostly emulating a single, 16-bit IDE controller (non-DMA). The image files have a real simple format. There's no header. Just be sure it's a multiple of 64k (16 heads * 16 sectors * 512 bytes per sector = 64k per cylinder). Actually, I think the current code will "grow" the file as needed, provided the file exists to be stat()'d. I just don't have a PBI ROM currently available to load a partition table (or even allow someone to create/edit a partition table). So, I guess this is mainly to ask for suggestions in the ROM code. SIO only? SIO and CIO? I suppose I could use the PBI device to "add" an R: CIO handler that contained "ESC" instructions to perform serial and/or TCP/IP operations. Feedback time, people. |

I believe there was some discussion a little while back. Was the Atari Hardware Manual used as reference during the development of the ANTIC emulation currently in the Atari800 emulator? Just curious. I believe I had said something about 192 color clocks for the wide playfield in that short discussion, but that was taken from Mapping the Atari and was found to be only half true. |
