It shouldn't be too difficult to do this. You may have to add a few route statements in rc.local to handle this. You may also need some of Lonnie's requested changes. I haven't had time to look at those yet in depth. Perhaps this afternoon or tomorrow I'll have a chance. No chance in hell of looking at that stuff after 5pm tonight though. Kristian, First, my OpenVPN experience is a total of the last two weeks; so, with that in mind... Yes, I think OpenVPN will solve your problem. Until Darrick has a chance to look at my openvpn changes in AstLinux, you might look at: /etc/init.d/openvpn http://lonnie.abelbeck.com/share/openvpn2.txt which allows you to specify a text file /mnt/kd/openvpn/openvpn.conf that overrides any rc.conf openvpn settings. The 'clients' should be straight forward. http://openvpn.net/howto.html#client The 'server' requires a non-overlapping virtual network (usually private) for the openvpn clients. It would be up to you to route these private address to the proper places in the data center. http://openvpn.net/howto.html#server The 'server' config would probably use the "client-config-dir ccd" command to specify each of the clients virtual IP address, cert/key, route, etc. . You should be able to create a test-bed with AstLinux at each end, one with openvpn set as a server and the other as a openvpn client. The key is getting the routing correct. To start with, you might want to make your AstLinux OpenVPN server, openvpn only (no asterisk), route with an external firewall and use asterisk with another AstLinux box. This mimics your data center situation better and makes testing easier. Hey everyone, OpenVPN - looks very cool, I'm glad that AstLinux has it. I have a problem that looks like it could be solved with the appropriate VPN. OpenVPN looks like it can probably do it for me. Here is what I need to do: Many boxes are behind NAT. Each box has several services that need to be accessed by a few remote systems that all all on the same network (probably a dedicated VLAN) in a datacenter. By many boxes I mean hundreds, thousands, etc. Here is what I think I need: - openvpn on each box with public key authentication (I don't want to have to deal with passwords) - openvpn "concentrator" doing routing/firewalling/etc in the datacenter The "kick" is I need the openvpn concentrator to hand out unique IP addresses that are rout able (at least within my VLAN in the datacenter - maybe by proxyarp) to each client as it connects. Multiple machines on that VLAN (not running openvpn) must be able to access the remote IP addresses without any extra software or configuration. Can openvpn do this? What extra rc.conf values will I need? Thanks! -- Kristian Kielhofner |

Mark, Don't you think 166MHz might be a little on the slow end? The net4801-50 is $230 (quantity 20, board, case, power supply) for a proven, time tested, faster solution. By the time you add a PoE switch and IP phones, the CPU box savings is in the noise. It is real cool a home builder is considering this; a AstLinux box, Netgear FS116P PoE switch, a few SPA-942 phones. Great system for a $1000-$1500 extra. Much nicer than the Panasonic solutions of the recent past. hi, 166Mhz, don't expect any transcoding. for a bit more, and still lower price than a soekris, have a look at : http://store.epatec.net/de/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=40 800Mhz processor and Dom. I use it and we can have more than 15 calls, some of them with transcoding (g729) They will give you a good pricing for quantities, I paid around 180€ each buying 5. We are reseller for these thin clients from epatec if you need a good pricing :) Just try to buy directly from them. regards, Olivier Mark Phillips a écrit : > Hi Folks, > > I have a potential AstLinux sale of 50 units to a local house builder > and I was thinking about using one of these machines > http://linuxdevices.com/news/NS6828123924.html > > Anyone tried one? Hi Folks, I have a potential AstLinux sale of 50 units to a local house builder and I was thinking about using one of these machines http://linuxdevices.com/news/NS6828123924.html Anyone tried one? I'm about to place an order for one. The website claims its $99 in one offs. I'm guessing with shipping and Customs etc it'll be more like $150. Still $150 better than a Soekris solution. Hello Lenir, use the dev environment, read http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/AstLinux+Development+Environment and add your own package. Note: Astlinux uses uClibc, not glibc. Therefore the best is to compile your software using the dev environment. BTW, when you edit a file under ./target/... you have to run make afterwards. Delete also the build_ix86 directory first. Makeimage takes files from build_ix86/root Let us know if you have further questions. regards, Ingmar Lenir Santiago wrote: > Hey guys, > > I want to install astlinux where the root ( / ) is readwrite instead of > read-only. You can mount the system manually in rw mode, but portage will NOT work to add packages (for several reasons). Anything you want to add, you'll need to use the development environment and add packages. You can look at the existing ones and create a template based on that. > How is this possible? on the source code i went to > ./astlinux/trunk/target/generic/target_skeleton/etc and edited the rc > file, but when i ran makeimage.sh command it wrote it as the original > file, not as i edited it You do not want to permanently mount / as rw. Hey guys, I want to install astlinux where the root ( / ) is readwrite instead of read-only. The reason i want this is so i can use the portage package and be able to install additional software at my leasure. How is this possible? on the source code i went to ./astlinux/trunk/target/generic/target_skeleton/etc and edited the rc file, but when i ran makeimage.sh command it wrote it as the original file, not as i edited it. How can i make astlinux mount / as read-write? Thanks in advance. --------------------------------- We won't tell. Get more on shows you hate to love (and love to hate): Yahoo! Hello Peter, we have two options for starting the mISDN subsystem: 1.) the way we do it today pro: works out of the box for most common te_ptmp installations, no knowledge about the misdn-init.conf file is required, no editing is required con: if you require a different mode, you have to edit the startup script yourself in order that the config file does not get overwritten after a reboot. 2.) we do not run misdn-init scan/config at the beginning, but put instead a misdn-init.conf template on the rw partition and users can adjust it to their needs. pro: reboot-safe, no config file editing required con: you must run 'misdn-init scan' manually before firsttime usage in order to retrieve the proper settings for your card (all cards are different...). The values of the output of the scan command must be applied properly by hand to the misdn-init.conf file. If we switch to 2.), I could imagine that other poeple complain that the template misdn-init.conf does not reflect the proper settings of their individual ISDN card(s) and they ask "what do I have to do to get it running??" (note: some people run more than one card per system or have 2+ card running with different modes applied to different ports). I still prefer the current way because all you have to do is to enable it in rc.conf and it works just great for te_ptmp scenarios. If you need advanced configuration, you should do the advanced configuration by yourself. This assume you know what you are doing and then it's an easy task. We may want to put this information on the astlinux wiki. If people can get information about how to make those changes, it would be fine. The wiki would be a great place for that. So, who wants to write it up? ;) It would be a summary of our recent few e-mails about mISDN. cheers, Ingmar Peter Roelandts wrote: > Ingmar, > > yes, you are right but you post that solution one day to late :( > > in the mean time the installations is up and running :-) > > and maybe it is better to wait for the next release, then this value can be > set the proper way ;-) > > For the moment my time is very limited to many projects to do heeelp :-((( > > anyway thanks for help, appreciate that very much ! > > Regards, > > Peter > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Ingmar Schraub" <is...@es...> > To: "AstLinux Users Mailing List" <ast...@li...> > Sent: Tuesday, February 06, 2007 12:14 PM > Subject: Re: [Astlinux-users] How do I edit a permanent misdn-init.conf? > > >> Hello Peter, >> >> what is your issue that you cannot make the change for mISDN permanent? >> >> All you have to do is to modify the startup scripts. Hello Peter, what is your issue that you cannot make the change for mISDN permanent? All you have to do is to modify the startup scripts. That's all easy. If you require to change a file on a ro filesystem ( / ), you just remount the filesystem to rw, make the change and go back to ro. I don't see any issue here. Many people have done this already, so you should be able to do this as well :) Only standard linux/unix knowledge is required. cheers, Ingmar Peter Roelandts wrote: > Ingmar, Darrick, Alexander, > > I can confirm that HFC-PCI works great also in "te_ptp" mode > > unfortunately I could not use soekris/astlinux because it was impossible to > change it in this mode permanently via rc.conf > > I have to do a basic asterisk installation on another pc. > > I hope this problem will solved in the next release because astlinux is to > good and practical especially in combination with the soekris. > > Kind regards, > > Peter Roelandts > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Ingmar Schraub" <is...@es...> > To: <at...@oc...> > Cc: <ast...@li...> > Sent: Tuesday, February 06, 2007 10:11 AM > Subject: Re: [Astlinux-users] How do I edit a permanent misdn-init.conf? > > >> Dear Alexander, >> >> depending on your ISDN card, mISDN can only create a default template >> for your configuration, when you the misdn-init script is executed. >> >> I.e. if you run one of the cheap HFC-PCI cards (about 30 Euros), this >> happens. Ingmar, Darrick, Alexander, I can confirm that HFC-PCI works great also in "te_ptp" mode unfortunately I could not use soekris/astlinux because it was impossible to change it in this mode permanently via rc.conf I have to do a basic asterisk installation on another pc. Hi Alexander, nice to hear that it is working now for you. Regarding the autoguessing init script: complain to Beronet ;) They developed it, it's part of mISDN. However, I think, it is useful to get started. Once someone is more familiar, he can poke around in the config files/scripts and adjust them as needed. That's what you have done just now ;) regards Ingmar > Personally I do not like autoguessing init scripts :) > > thanks anyway > > |

Dear Alexander, depending on your ISDN card, mISDN can only create a default template for your configuration, when you the misdn-init script is executed. I.e. if you run one of the cheap HFC-PCI cards (about 30 Euros), this happens. If you have a Beronet 2,4,8 port card, you can at least specify nt oder te mode by setting a hardware jumper. In typical environments (te_ptmp) is is fine. That's why we made life easy for the majority of users. In your case do the following: mount -t ext2 -o rw,remount / vi /etc/init.d/asterisk search for 'misdn-init config' and comment this line out mount -t ext2 -o ro,remount / Now misdn-init config is not executed when asterisk starts and your edited misdn-init.conf file remains untouched. Note: this assumes you start your mISDN with ISDN_MODPROBE="MISDN" in rc.conf. If you have further questions, please write to ast...@li.... Darrick already explained why. All, I've been running astlinux on a gumstix netstix 400 for over a month, works like a charm. However: The build environment is still giving me problems, especially pcmcia-cs. Build fails when I add the pcmcia-cs package. Need this to allow access to the CF slot for keydisk support. Has anyone else come across this problem and developed a fix? BTW: Build also always fails at packages iproute, iptables, and msmtp. This hasn't been a problem since I don't need these packages for now. But pcmcia-cs is really needed. Using revision 503 of the buildroot. Thanks, Dan |

As far as the change, is this a typo or a configuration change? If it's a typo, we can fix it in the development environment and it will be fixed permanently when 0.4.5 is released (soon). You can manually change the init script by mounting your root system rw, editing the init script for misdn, remounting the system ro. Please clarify if this is a typo or not as isdn is not common in the US. Darrick -- Darrick Hartman DJH Solutions, LLC http://www.djhsolutions.com |
