Hello everyone, I just merged the rt branch into trunk. This is a pretty serious update even IF you are building with RT disabled- - new version of madwifi - new version of zaptel - new kernel (2.6.20) - unionfs patches - squashfs patches Of course there is the new option - RT PREEMPT support. Under "AstLinux device", each device has a sub-option to enable RT PREEMPT. All of the appropriate makefiles for the device, kernel, and packages will take this into account and apply the necessary steps (mostly just patches) to enable RT PREEMPT. There are known problems with mISDN, but Ingmar and I will be working on that. You will also want to build with schedutils so that you can actually change the priorities of the interrupts in the kernel. That's what RT PREEMPT is all about! :) Kernel changes... AstLinux finally has it's own EXTRAVERSION on the kernel (-astlinux). Now modules are here: 2.6.20-astlinux or 2.6.20-rt5-astlinux instead of just 2.6.20 Keep an eye out for this one - some out of tree kernel modules may need to be updated to make sure that they get installed to the right path. -- Kristian Kielhofner |

I have had very good luck with the LEX NEO/TWISTER Via based platforms ... 3 or 4 NIC's ... Some models have 1gb NIC ... CPU is C3 @ 1ghz ... Design is fanless and packaging is billet aluminum built like a tank ... Not a lot of waste gadgetry ... Has CF socket but have not messed with any that included mini-pci ... This may be an option that I just never had any need for so it may be available on some models ... Have worked with a couple that had PCMCIA and CF ... These are not cheap and average $350-600 for barebones depending on config ... The NEO is very small but will fit a 2.5in HD if you want ... The TWISTER is a little bigger and will fit a 2.5in HD and a single PCI card in the box ... a US Vendor is http://shopping.hacom.net/catalog/ ... We have a few modules on hand for testing in the interim. So apparently there is a monster 600mW miniPCI card available now. I don't even know if that's legal for a person to use in some countries unless you have a HAM radio license or something, depending on the type of antenna you use. http://www.asteriskvoipnews.com/wireless_hardware/ubiquiti_networks_releases_extremerange2_xr2_wifi_card_for_linux_with_a_600.html http://www.ubnt.com/xtreme_range2.php4 http://www.wisp-router.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=XR2&eq=&Tp= Says it's a 6th generation Atheros device, and works with MADWIFI. Does this mean it should work out-of-the-box with AstLinux? |

If you want a larger size you'll be able to grab the 0.4.5 tag from svn and build your own image. There are alot of changes planned in the 0.5 branch that will give you more flexibility. Does PHP need to be freshened up? How do folks feel about MicroPerl? I like Perl, but found MicroPerl it mostly useless. I've resorted to PHP for the bulk of the scripts I use. I'm still looking forword to the APC UPS integration. Thanks - Tom On 2/21/07, Dave Roper <cyb...@ya...> wrote: > > 1. Add the sqlite database to the default image of > AstLinux 0.4.5. 1. Add the sqlite database to the default image of AstLinux 0.4.5. I use sqlite for some special Asterisk/database integration projects. 2. Consider making the default Asterisk version from the 1.4 branch. 3. Make the default AstLinux image size 128 meg instead of 64 meg. This would be useful for adding other custom programs of our own with more free space available. Also, release a 256 meg image too. ____________________________________________________________________________________ TV dinner still cooling? Check out "Tonight's Picks" on Yahoo! Hello Peter, the best/most reliable configuration for a production system is iaxmodem+hylafax. That's the configuration you are using. spandsp 0.0.3 includes some ECM features, what helps if you run it with app_fax. I have this combination running, but having said, I am not sending receiving tons of faxes to/from different location in the world. If I would need to send/receive so many faxes, I'd really go for hylafax! regards, Ingmar quoting Peter Roelandts > Hi everyone, > > Just let you know that I do tests with > > asterisk <--> mISDN <--> spandsp <--> iaxmodem <--> hylafax > > Did a lot of research finding the best solution especially for the fax > app. > > Hylafax is definite the winner it has a superior error checking and > automatic correction mechanism. > > Running a system in production for one month now at a customer who send / > receive between 20 -30 faxes a day. > > Read about rxfax / txfax that they have no crc build in but forgot to > bookmark this information don't know if this is true :) > > regards, > > Peter > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "IS" <is...@es...> > To: "AstLinux Users Mailing List" <ast...@li...> > Sent: Wednesday, February 21, 2007 12:50 AM > Subject: Re: [Astlinux-users] AstLinux next release > > >> Hi Kevin, >> >> you can use iaxmodem to talk to a fax application. Hi everyone, Just let you know that I do tests with asterisk <--> mISDN <--> spandsp <--> iaxmodem <--> hylafax Did a lot of research finding the best solution especially for the fax app. Hylafax is definite the winner it has a superior error checking and automatic correction mechanism. Running a system in production for one month now at a customer who send / receive between 20 -30 faxes a day. Read about rxfax / txfax that they have no crc build in but forgot to bookmark this information don't know if this is true :) regards, Peter ----- Original Message ----- From: "IS" <is...@es...> To: "AstLinux Users Mailing List" <ast...@li...> Sent: Wednesday, February 21, 2007 12:50 AM Subject: Re: [Astlinux-users] AstLinux next release > Hi Kevin, > > you can use iaxmodem to talk to a fax application. Hi Dominko, I receive the system 2 weeks ago. By the moment I have only tested that Astlinux in CF card works. The case include a CF-IDE converter. The included NIC not works by the moment. Kristian say that in next version will work. Have installed a passive ISDN Fritz card and have seen that this card share irq with usb, but misdn detect it without problems. I hope in 2 or 3 days has a little time to begin to test all, update BIOS, run last AstLinux version, test Grandstream GXW-4108, Linksys switch with POE (SRW224P) and Thomson st2030 phones. Hi Kevin, you can use iaxmodem to talk to a fax application. The best choice here is to use Hylafax on a remote system. This combo allows you to send/receive faxes via Zaptel, mISDN, etc. eFax should work too. Maybe some configuration tweaks are necessary. Darrick probably has a look. I'll check too if time allows. In an rather experimental state I have running spandsp with app_?xfax over mISDN. I managed to send/receive faxes. However, for sending faxes, a nice interface is missing. That's just a proof of concept at this moment. However, I had some issues with newer spandsp versions to get cross-compiled. I talked to Steve Underwood and he could fix one issue and the other one I noticed, I have to re-test. That's the status. Fax over SIP... did you test this - not with Astlinux but on a standalone system? Heard reliability is an issue. I can't comment on this because I haven't tried it. cheers, Ingmar quoting Kevin Kiely > Darrick, > > Do you know if the fax related packages that Ingmar is adding will support > faxing over a SIP connection like NVFAXDETECT? > > Thanks, > > Kevin > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Darrick Hartman [mailto:dha...@dj...] > Sent: Tuesday, February 20, 2007 5:08 PM > To: AstLinux Users Mailing List > Subject: [Astlinux-users] AstLinux next release > > In preparing for the 0.4.5 release of Astlinux, there have been several > things happening in the background.
