Nedi, Followup, bottom line, there is something goofy with the macOS 'screen'. I just tried the astlinux-1.3.8-genx86_64-serial.iso installer on the APU2. If I use the "Serial" macOS application, it works just fine. https://www.decisivetactics.com/products/serial/ If I use "minicom" on an old MacBook, it works fine. I used another AstLinux box (I have lots of them), same USB/serial converter connected to AstLinux, ssh into AstLinux and issue: -- screen --version Screen version 4.08.00 (GNU) 05-Feb-20 screen /dev/ttyUSB0 115200 -- it works fine. But, if I use macOS's screen: -- screen --version Screen version 4.00.03 (FAU) 23-Oct-06 screen /dev/tty.usbserial-A102MMV1 115200 --- as soon as the menus appear, the screen flashes wildly as if I was typing characters. Bottom line, don't use the macOS 'screen' with a USB/serial adapter and expect it to always work. Lonnie, I'm confused to, I can send data as sample f10 to get menu from apu and I can make memory test and exit, I can chose bootvolume, I can with USB keyboard on apu with crtl alt delete make reboot but I can't install if press on install in menu. Nedi, I don't know what PCengines did to optimize for LTE but it may have to do with RF screening for miniPCI cellular/4G modems. Astlinux does not support any of these modems. I looked at it a few years ago but found that supporting them would be non-trivial. They use antiquated serial port AT type protocols and very few can emulate an ethernet port. They are not cheap either. You are far better off using an external wireless gateway like the netgear LB1120 (or LB1121 with PoE), this is what I use for failover. Michael, What are the good uses for a 4th NIC? I suppose if you wanted two completely isolated internal LAN networks without using VLAN it could be useful, would require separate h/w switch and wiring of course. Any other good uses?
