Hi Han, can galaxy catalogues been extended from 17.3m in direction of18m? This would be very helpful in galaxy clusters. Aladin has them in. Regards Achim

If there is more, upgrading will be relative easy. The current version (full Leda GX catalog) is the status from a few years ago. I doubt there has changed much, but I can have a look in November earliest.
Cheers, Han

Hi Jordi,
I checked that catalogue. It doesn't seem to cover the whole sky. E.g. the Perseus cluster around NGC1275 isn't in at all. In the Hercules cluster around NGC6045 the current Hyperleda catalogue contains more galaxies.

The Hyperleda database has not changed much. Down to magnitude 21 there where 2.11 million galaxies but is now only 2.23 million. But fainter then magnitude 21 there are about 5 million galaxies. Can you image objects fainter then magnitude 21 ?

This version (installer) contains all galaxies from HyperLeda, about 5 million galaxies. I will keep two HyperLeda versions. An updated of 2.1 million and this one. Tell me if this one works for you.
to your question: My limiting magnitude is about 21-22m (while imaging galaxy clusters). But when I compare SIMBAD in galaxy cluster fields, I get a few more galaxies.

The latest ASTAP HyperLeda_large contains all galaxies from the HyperLeda catalog. I only omitted misinterpretations from the past and galaxy groups. Galaxy groups made the display messy. It looks like Simbad has more galaxies. So I would use the ASTAP popup menu for that. Then you can also get all the galaxy information in a browser. So pull a rectangle around the galaxy, select in the popup menu "Online query", "Browser request (Simbad)"

Hello Han, I tried both Hyperleda cataloques in the Coma Cluster. The 'large' is here much to messy, you can't read anything. So I'm back to the normal Hyperleda. And then in special areas the Simbad query.

Yes labeling of so many galaxies is a problem. Maybe it helps if I remove the names/abbreviations of galaxies without a size specified. Then they are only annotated by four yellow dots. The galaxy details could be retrieved via Simbad if required. I will try that today.

I did the same for the standard ASTAP deepsky database for the hundreds global clusters around M31 and M33. Adding the abbreviations to the annotation made it too crowded.

The new modified HyperLeda_large version is ready for download. In attached screenshot you see the difference. Right is made using the latest version where the abbreviation is omitted for all galaxies with size zero. They are all annotated with the 4 pixels only.
Tell me if this works for you.
Note also for the older version on the left the Coma Cluster galaxy survey is more or less done for a square area. On the left side of that square there is a smaller square part not so well surveyed. So there will be still galaxies missing. And pretty mind blowing is the fact that each galaxy could contain 100.000.000.000 stars or more.
Hi Han, that works well.
And I noticed the same:
Coma-Cluster: Full of yellow squares, but still good to read now
Hercules Cluster: At least twice amount of galaxies are still easy visible, but have no name, also not in Simbad

Hello Han & Achim,
the idea sounds good.
Yesterday I read about a new and impressive galaxy catalogue that could be useful for ASTAP.
Source: https://sga.legacysurvey.org/
And for those who want to know about it, here you have the article: https://www.universetoday.com/163807/astronomers-release-a-cosmic-atlas-of-380000-galaxies-in-our-neighborhood/
I hope it could be implemented.
Clear skies,
Jordi

What about using as an alternative an online-Simbad?
Hello Han, any news here?
Regards Achim
Not yet. It is on the list of things to do. I was busy with other modifications.

I'm working on an update. Maybe one or two days and then it should be ready.

Hi Han, even with the latest ASTAP version, during install I get this error messeg. Regards Achim
to your question: My limiting magnitude is about 21-22m (while imaging galaxy clusters). But when I compare SIMBAD in galaxy cluster fields, I get a few more galaxies.
ASTAP vs SIMBAD
2 examples for missing galaxies, even that they are shown in the image
The install error was strange. I have fixed it by a different setting in the setup compiler. Download it again and it should install:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/astap-program/files/star_databases/hyperleda_large.exe/download
I will have a look to your screen shots now.
install now works.
The 2 'not named' galaxies in the screen shots have magn. 19.9 and 19.4, so less than 20.
The two galaxies where omitted because the size was not specified in HyperLeda. They are now in. One is missing
You can get all annotated using the popup menu "Online query", "Deepsky annotation Simbad"
