Hi Gerald, Please try deleting ast-0.2.3/etc/awf.conf and see if that fixes it. Someho= w=20 this file turned out to be an invalid XML file. =2D- Michael. hello, when going to http://localhost/ast-0.2.3/ast I get the following: Error occured generating this page: system_settings: empty or invalid file. Thrown from void libawf::system_settings::load(const std::string&, libawf::filesystem&) at systemsettings.cc:73 In addition, there was an error running the error page: Pre-Condition of function libawf::file libawf::filesystem::get_file(const std::string&, const std::string&) const was violated, expression: _lang.length() > 0. Thrown from libawf::file libawf::filesystem::get_file(const std::string&, const std::string&) const at filesystem.cc:162 does anyone know why ast doesn't work? could it be a missing apache component? thanks best regards gerald moernaut |

I'm wondering if there's an option to crontab to merge a file, rather
than overwrite.

Actually its just:
crontab -l (to view)
crontab -e (to edit, opens with emacs, nano or vi)
and
crontab file (loads file in, replacing existing).
A quick script to do this:
crontab -l > tmp
cat ${MY_INSTALLDIR}/share/example/crontab >> tmp
crontab tmp

Ahh...I wasn't sure. I figured the command would do both.
I would add both commands to the output:
To view your existing crontab:
crontab -l ${MY_INSTALLDIR}/share/example/crontab
To merge with your existing crontab:
crontab -e ${MY_INSTALLDIR}/share/example/crontab
To overwrite your existing crontab or install a new one:
crontab ${MY_INSTALLDIR}/share/example/crontab

The postinstall says:
1. Install the example crontab (or merge with your existing):
crontab ${MY_INSTALLDIR}/share/example/crontab
I guess that isn't very clear (except for saying your should merge) that it=
=20
will overwrite your crontab. I changed the directions to:
1. Merge the sample crontab in ${MY_INSTALLDIR}/share/example/crontab with=
=20
your existing crontab (crontab -l to view, crontab -e to edit). If your=20
crontab is blank, you can replace it with the sample:
crontab ${MY_INSTALLDIR}/share/example/crontab # THIS WILL OVERWRITE YOU=
R=20
EXISTING CRONTAB
Thanks.

Hi Anthony, Sorry for overwriting you crontab! I know that can be a real pain if you do= n't=20 know what was in there. How did you install ast? 1. Using the install.pl script? 2. Hi Nick, The latest SVN sources have support for rules and I've cleaned up the game= =20 code a bit. There are few little polish things left to do, like push the ru= le=20 limits back up to the user (e.g. it says you can't pick stocks on this=20 market, when instead it would be nicer to just not let them select that=20 market at all). The rules I have implemented are: 1. Minimum security price 2. Limited markets 3. Commissions 4. Maximum / Minimum investment in one security 5. Maximum number of holdings 6. Disable selling I haven't done anything with dividends yet. Here is what I was thinking: A= =20 script that runs nightly and looks for dividends and records the transactio= n.=20 The only potential problem here is I don't know how timely the dividend dat= a=20 is. Now I think we need to do some beta testing. I'm not sure how to organise t= his=20 exactly. If you are interested in hosting something that would be great.=20 Otherwise I have a server but I don't want to publish the URL, so maybe I'l= l=20 do it invite only. If you would like me to build a binary for you let me know (I have a script= =20 that does this). Remember that you have to configure with --enable-game to= =20 actually get this code. Hi Nick, The latest SVN sources now have some preliminary support for competitions.= =20 =46irstly you need to compile them with --enable-game (the code is hidden b= y=20 default). After that you can go into the Setup screen and add competitions.= =20 Then if you go into your portfolio you have the option to join those=20 competitions. In the competition portfolios there is a Statistics page whic= h=20 shows how everyone is doing. This is re-generated daily (but its pretty fas= t,=20 so maybe I'll change that to every hour). What still needs to be done: 1. Add some of the nice bits... help messages for empty data sets. 2. Implement the rules system (only rule now is spending limit). 3. Some way to account for stock splits and dividends. Maybe dividends shou= ld=20 be automatically detected. 4. Contest end date stops reports from being generated but does not lock th= e=20 user from changing the portfolio. User is also not prevented from deleting= =20 securities from portfolio. Possible there are a few other ways to cheat...= =20 have to look for these. 5. Allow users to sign up to AST (instead of being created by the admin). If you take a look, please let me know what you think and if there are any= =20 other features we need. Thanks =2D- Michael. Hi Bruno, I can probably get yahoo's realtime quotes into AST. I had a look around on= =20 the Yahoo Finance website and found the Real-time ECN=20 (http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/q/ecn?s=3DYHOO). I'm not sure if this is what= =20 you're talking about or not, it appears to be free. If you could give me an= =20 exact link to the page you are talking about that would be great. As for 'branding', you can modify pretty much all of the pages generated by= =20 AST already. What you need to do is change one of the files in=20 share/templates/en. You are probably interested in header, footer,=20 body-start, body-end and login. There is a little bit of information on the= =20 modifications here: http://ast.sourceforge.net/index.php?option=3Dcom_content&task=3Dview&id=3D= 40&Itemid=3D30 Basically everthing that starts with $ is a field that AST will replace.=20 Please let me know how this works for you. =2D- Michael. Good Day. First off, thank you for a wonderful application. I would like to post a feature request. Even as a paid for feature if you would like. Yahoo offers free delayed stocks and paid for realtime quotes. I think it would be great if one could have the realtime quote service as an option for compiling your super application. Or a panel to input the paid for realtime service info/login. I would also be interested in some kind of branding service, so I may put up my own logo -- This is not as important as the Realtime service though. Does this sound possible. Thank You for your time and energies. BrunoB |

Hi Nick, I forgot that we need to use the market price for trades and not allow the= =20 user to enter the price. What I have seen some contests do (name=20 globeinvestor) is use the closing price on the day the order was placed. No= t=20 perfect by any means, but its fairly simple. Hi Nick, This is actually a commonly requested feature. As far as I know, there is n= o=20 software out there that meets these needs. I think that I will implement th= is=20 feature in (near) future... Here is what I was thinking: 1. When creating a portfolio, give the user the option to create=20 a "competition portfolio". The user would select the type, which could be=20 defined the administrator. 2. The administrator can create different portfolio types with different=20 rules. There will be some pre-built rules, such as a min # of stocks, max=20 investment in a stock, etc. In addition, you can define custom rules (that= =20 apply to one security probably) by writing expressions on the portfolio. On= e=20 thing we need to do is brainstorm what rules we need. 3. There will be a status page (or various status pages) where you can see = who=20 is winning, lossing, biggest gainer in the week, etc. 4. Disable recording of dividends on a competition portfolio, but need a wa= y=20 to otherwise account for stock splits (and possibly dividends if you want=20 them to be counted). If the user could record dividends, they could obvious= =20 inflate the gains. 5. Probably want to have a page where a user can create an account (current= ly=20 only admin can). This has also been requested a couple of times. 6. Ability to define a contest end date, after which the portfolio is no=20 longer updated. I'm not quite sure how this would be handled... looking up= =20 historical quotes or somehow modifying the portfolio database. 7. Probably would like to be able to copy old contests and change the end=20 date. 8. Allow read-only sharing on portfolios so that other users can browse the= m=20 (should be easy since read-write sharing is already implemented). 9. You may wish to disable certain features in AST, such as stock screener= =20 that can cause high load if you have many users. 10. Maybe a permission level that says users can or cannot join competition= s?=20 How to limit these to a group of users (since AST has no groups). 11. Should this be an option in system settings or a compile-time option?=20 Probably compile time until it is stabilized. I apologize for the length of this email, its sort of a to-do list for me.= =20 Please let me know if you have any ideas for #4 and which filters we need=20 (#2).
