IMAP is the only way to go IF you aren't hosting hundreds (or thousands, or more) of different users. I prefer POP3 for hosting - I like users to download email and get it off my servers (not that they have to, but in general everyone configures POP3 that way). Lars is right - IMAP is scheduled for XMail, but it has been for awhile. XMail is the most robust MTA I have ever used, and aside from two significant issues (IMAP and SSL) it is by far the best I have used. It is highly configurable via scripts. You can use both IMAP and SSL with XMail by the way. There is a how-to with Courier IMAP (which may or may not be available under Windows - I would run run FreeBSD if you can anyway) and there is a compiled version with SSL support that I have not tried, so there are work arounds for these two issues.
