i'm in the process of packaging assimp for debian (and thus ubuntu, and a bunch of other derivatives), but find it a little bit annyoing that the only packages available for download already include w32 binaries and several tens of MBytes of model data of unclear licensing (esp. the "non-bsd" models)
can i suggest for you to (additionally) release a _source only_ tarball that contains no binaries, no data, but only source files and build-system?
this might also be of interest to other people who are not on w32 (and thus can make no use of the pre-built binaries), and who find no actual need to download 30MB of model-files each time they want to update assimp.
Thanks for the suggestion.
We'll release minimal source tarballs with the next official release - except if you see huge benefit in releasing tarballs for the most recent release now?
Bye, Alex
that mainly depends on your release plans.
if a new release can be expected within the next months, i guess i can wait :-)
