I know you know this, but anyway.
Server: 1Ghz Linux, Client 1.4Ghz win2k, 100MBit
switched lan in between. Latency as displayed by game
is atleast 50. Internet servers from the same box
sometimes go below 90.
I get the feeling this shouldnt be. Isnt it possible to "fix"
latencies on LAN? I get the feeling its about some delay
in the TCP/IP stack, but afaik it uses UDP which
shouldnt be delayed (imo).

UDP still can be delayed if the packets queue up to be sent through a
low bandwidth interface; however, normally this would rather lead to
packet loss than to higher latency since the stack will decide to throw
packets away. And of course, there is no low bandwidth interface near.
When I test LAN play, I get equally high numbers; but it seems to me it's
only the displayed ping, and the gameplay is rather unaffected. At least,
it feels much more laggy on a 200 Ping server than in the LAN.
Is it just the high numbers you want to report or does the game feel
laggier than it should, too?

Its mostly the high numbers that annoy me. I dont notice any
lag in the gameplay. Some games have these "minimum
latencies" you see on a LAN aswell, but I havent seen any as
high as 50. CounterStrike goes to 5 on the internet, so it
probably shows 1 or 0 on LAN, which is a nice thing.

It should work much better in Armagetron Advanced
0.2.8_beta1, the ping calculation has been reworked.
