Soldering Iron Driver is a HW/SW project to controll cheaply available soldering iron handpieces allowing user to have a professional level soldering station for the cost of a handle and few readily available parts.

SID is tested with
- HAKKO 907 handpiece
- HAKKO 908 handpiece
- QUICK 907A handpiece (HAKKO klon, different characteristics of the sensor)
- GORDAK handpiece (HAKKO klon, different characteristics of the sensor)
- ATTEN handpiece (HAKKO klon, different characteristics of the sensor)
- NONAME HAKKO klon (identical RTD characteristics)

- SOLOMON SL 10
- SOLOMON HQ 10
- SOLOMON HQ 30

- WELLER PES-51

SID display's data on 16x2 LCD, it has USB port (used attm only for bootloader) and it outputs debug info on serial port of the mcu. It features fully tunable (no auto tuning so far) PID controller for the tip temperature.

User Reviews

  • Great project. I built the dangerousprototypes V1.5 which was based on Arhi's latest design at the time. Hardware works fine-- I am still trying to get some parts of the software working properly. Arhi is very responsive-- he reads questions posted to the dangerousprototypes forum frequently and goes out of his way to help. For instance, I had horrible switch debouncing problems. He found a few minutes during the day and added software debouncing (within 12 hours and he lives half way around the world!). BTW, he used hardware debouncing so this wasn't even something he needed. Thanks Arhi.
