I use areca to backup a few file servers to a central one. Then, I copy those configuration files to my workstation (and to other sysadmins workstations) to see history and revocer individual files. But I use SFTP with certificates, then I have to manually edit those configs as each workstation does not have the certificate from the original (source) server.

I do not want to copy the server certificate. Each server should have it's own, and each sysadmin should also have it's own, or use his PAM login/password.

Areca could catch the SSH authentication error and ask for new credentials, say login and password, or an alternate certificate file. That way, me and other sysadmins would not need to hand edit the backup configuration files.
