I notice that when the backups are running the log file has 3 info lines, One closing transaction, o deleting and one opening
Can someone explain what these are used for and what it does

A transaction point is when Areca is done with a task that will be finalized. A transaction is a series of jobs where if something goes wrong, the whole task will be undone, so no halfway done backup remains. That means a backup will be written and marked final only if everything went well, no error occured.
